Waterproof or Water Resistant Watch?

New posts

Merman needs a new watch for the beach! He has a beautiful stainless steel Raymond Weil that he won't wear anywhere near the water because he thinks it's going to get sunburned. Well, not really, but he refuses to believe that a watch that says "water resistant" means that you can actually--are you ready for this?--actually get into the water with!!!! And I'm tired of telling him that he can swim with his Weil without wrecking it.

So I thought I'd buy him a dedicated Beach Watch. One that he can absolutely swim with. He can't stand not wearing a watch and I know it's been killing him all these years having to swim with a naked wrist. I want to help him.

For those of you who swim with your watches on, are they water -proof or -resistant? Do I really need to buy waterproof if all we're doing here is splashing around on 30-A? Is there any other feature I should be looking for, or a particularly good brand? What I want to get is something cheap (as close to $100 as possible; he already has some good watches and I don't want to spoil him) and sporty. AND swimmable!

Much thanks everyone. :clap_1:

If you love him...you will buy him a Rolex. But maybe he'll settle for a Tag. Tags are diving watches. Mine says 200 meters. I wear it everywhere, everyday, at the beach, shower- this baby has seen it ALL!

And it's a nice gift...

And I just read you want it under $100. I'm stumped!

Water-Resistant means that it can get a little rain on it, a little splash of water, but it is NOT water-proof. You can not immerse it in water. He needs a Water-Proof to swim in.

I'm still waiting on you to apologize to Darlene, but you make a good point.

EDIT: I knew shiny looked funny with an 'e'.

From Target, my little purring p***y cat?

My brother has a Tag and I will be the first to say it's a fab watch. When our condo starts bringing in the $$ I'd love to get him one! But in the meantime, a "holdover" will have to do.

So now I'm confused--why do watches say "water resistant to 100 meters (for example)--if they're allergic to more than a little bit of water? Who showers in 100 meters of water? We want to go swimming. Cheap swimming.

I don't share!

You know, that's true about shiny stuff. That's why I don't swim with a belt.

Seriously, I go nuts without my watch. Feels like I forgot my underwear or something, but I force myself to leave mine in the car when I get to the beach. I don't see it again till the ride home. :clap_1:

LL, that's exactly what Merman is like! Before he even rolls out of bed in the morning, he has his watch on. He hates not having it on his wrist.
