Women settle discrimination lawsuit against Sheriff's Office | mso, style, sheriff - News - Northwest Florida Daily News

DeFUNIAK SPRINGS - Two female sheriff's deputies who filed a federal lawsuit in April 2008, saying that they were discriminated against because of their gender and because they were pregnant, have settled with the Walton County Sheriff's Office, and one has returned to work as a deputy.

"It's really important for people to know that the event that led to this lawsuit occurred entirely during Sheriff Johnson's tenure," Garrity said, adding that Sheriff Mike Adkinson, who took office in January, was instrumental in resolving the complaint.

"I've always been committed to the idea that you should treat people fairly and value the people that work for you," Adkinson said, adding that he was "pleased to see the successful resolution to this issue and have a valued member of our agency back to work."

As with many other things that occurred during the eight years of terror, all's well that ends well.

But, there are many for whom those eight years did irreparable harm. I still give thanks on a regular basis that it is over.
