We, the people?

On another thread someone stated that Americans only come together as one, indivisible nation when a catastrophic event or a war happens. That may have been true in our past. I don’t believe that to be true any longer because…

We’ve already had that type of catastrophic event occur, and recently. It happened on 9-11-01.

Less than ten years ago we had unity of purpose. We had a national resolve that rivaled our WWII era sense of indignity against those who attacked us. We were again one nation, indivisible. But, politics and greed guided us into this quagmire of divisiveness we are now experiencing. WE, the people caused this to happen. WE, the people have allowed ourselves to be manipulated by fear and anger. WE, the people are just not doing our jobs as voters. WE, the people should be ashamed for allowing this to happen to ourselves.

We, the people can do something about it if we would only stop attacking each other for simply disagreeing. Getting angry doesn't solve problems. Anger only creates bigger problems. Compromise is exactly what our founding fathers knew they had to do in order to get our constitution ratified by all of the states in 1787-1788. This fact is ignored (or, simply not known) by many of our alleged leaders. The ones who are always quoting the founding fathers and the constitution need to actually read the constitution or a history book. Compromise is how The United States of America began!

Accusing fellow Americans of being anti-American solves nothing. Radio and television attack dogs spewing hate and blame solve nothing. Always voting a party line, not researching FACT and not thinking for yourself solves nothing. Cynicism solves nothing. Hate solves nothing.

Too many Americans are greedy, selfish, short-sighted, and irresponsible at this point in our history. As I stated in the opening of this post, we’ve already had the catastrophic event that should have unified us. Things could have been so much better for Americans, socially and financially, as a result of that fateful day. But, look where we are now, not as a result of it but, in spite of it. I am ashamed, not of being an American, but of what America is becoming as a result of our petty bickering.

WE, THE PEOPLE can resolve ANY issue facing America today. WE, THE PEOPLE shouldn’t expect politicians, corporations and other manipulators to actually help the middle class, the backbone of the American economy. WE THE PEOPLE have the constitutional power to change anything the majority wants if WE, THE PEOPLE so choose. But…WE, THE PEOPLE won’t be able fix anything if we can’t even be civil in our national discourse. Government of, by and for the people is not what we have now.

I’m trying to do my part. What will YOU, THE PEOPLE, do about it?

I don't think it requires a catastrophe (though many would argue our fiscal situation is one.)

I think it requires organization, accurate information, sunshine, and reality.

I don't think a catastrophe is what it takes either. That's my point. Reasonable people should be able to work things out without all of the drama we've seen recently.
I think it requires organization, accurate information, sunshine, and reality.
Those things and a will to compromise on every side.

Getting along doesn't sell newspapers and the crap reality shows that can't seem to exist unless they're bleeping out every other word said. It is truly sad to see what is being pumped into mainstream America as the new "normal".
There nothing normal about it.

You have my permission to go right on preaching brother!!! :dothewave:

Me the people is doing my part! This is my country and the politicians and Wall Street aren't going to fix it. They are far more interested in screwing every penny they can out of the working man.
