Sorry ahead of time for my long winded post. I got carried away. I won't be offended if you pass it up.
I can see why the left thinks that if you voted for Trump, you are a racist. That's what they are being told by "news" and opinion sources. There's a lot of that going on here.
And his own words and actions and those of many supporters. Yes the media overpalys and hypes everything but truth is there for an educated, reasonable, reasoning person - I believe a majority of Americans, many of whom are tuned out and busy leading constructive lives.
I had a lot of apprehension voting for him. Remember that Trump was a New York Democrat and friends with the Clintons? I voted for him in spite of his celebrity persona.
Anyone who was paying attention knew that he inherited, bullied, lied, and grifted his way to fame and fortune. Sp do many politicians but at least most respect others to at least some degree.
The primaries were engourged with hopefuls and it came down to Trump. I don't believe initially that the elite right were feeling warm and fuzzy about him. I can't figure out for the life of me how he got evangelical support so early on and held on to it. In the end, even the reluctant right saw what was going on and shifted to embrace the candidate that had the best chance to win.
He promised them what they really wanted - pro-gun, anti-abortion, pro-Israel, judges, deregulation, etc.
Here's my " crazy conspiracy theory", in part.
I think Trump got elected because he was perceived as a Washington outsider (relatively speaking). He wasn't polished. He was able to connect to the everyday man/woman for the same reason Sanders captured so much attention. The right aknowledged this and fell in line.
Ordinary folk have been sick of being screwed by Washington politicians. They voted for what they thought was the opposite. The ultimate outsider who would blow it up. Well he's blowing everything up. Up until this week I just thought he was greedy and ignorant. But I'm beginning to see that the reult of severing alliances and starting global trade wars will cripple this country, What will happen then? American (and foreign) oligarchs will be left to pick up the pieces with their strong man at the helm - sound familiar? See Russia post USSR.
For some reason, the elite left held on and was lock step with Clinton in spite of how the everyday man/woman on the left (generally speaking) was feeling the Bern.
The system has been broken for quite awhile in both parties. The combination of the party leadership stranglehold and the current win at all costs environment is depressing. The terrible candidates on the right were not prepared for an all-out bully. The people watching cheered him on. Depressing.
People are burned out on Washington. It just recycles the same career politicians. The state level is breeding a bunch of Washington insider wannabe's. They are to busy working on their next career step instead of what's in their constituents best interest.
Anyone who holds office in our current system is a sellout. Just different faces. Most of their time is spent fundraising. The wealthy and the corporations run things. Capitalism if not regulated will eat itself. We have front row seats.
The system is broke. The insider leaders of the parties are in control and making a lot of mistakes. They control the narrative. Not you or I. That dynamic is backwords and corrupt.
As long as the foxes inhabit the hen house nothing will change. As long as the citizenry have their bellies full and their entertainment there will be no change. There will be no rebellion until stomachs are empty and then it will likely be too late.
It would have been a different outcome if it was a Cruz/Clinton race. I think this is the scenerio that the insiders wanted. Win or lose they were still in the game.
Rats on a sinking ship are rats until the end.
