What are your plans if coronavirus were to appear in our area?

New posts
There is a list of restaurants (so far 111) which have had FL State Covid complaints filed against them in an article on the Pensacola News site. A quick scan showed a few from our area; Craft Bar in Miramar, Local Catch & Blue Mabel. Lack of distancing between tables, no masks etc. Wonder if there will be more serious attention/consequences given to these types of reports now that DeSantis & Scott have admitted that Florida is out of control? We are seeing 5-9 more cases each day this past week in 32459 zip code. Also rising are the "out of state" number which we don't know where in Walton County these people contracted the virus, or if they have now gone home.
While we are seeing a rise, we have only had about 5 total in 32459 in the past week, most new cases are in DeFuniak Springs.
Walton County COVID19 Updates

I'm in a similar situation being retired. I don't consider the social distancing to be a big stressor in my life. A bigger stressor is that in the course of this pandemic I've learned things about the character of many of the people in this area which has caused me to become misanthropic.

Thank you for inspiring me to look up a new word that I’ve never heard, lol! I’ve definitely learned a lot about people during this pandemic that has unfortunately changed my thinking of others in a negative way. It took me sooooo many years to start being able to trust or even be around people.
After seeing just how self centered and the complete disregard for our fellow neighbors when people started hoarding supplies, I once again know the true nature of people. Also now that I see the anger and disdain that people have for others that wear a mask, instead of showing understanding, love and tolerance for each other, my opinion has become very realistic.
It’s so sad to see what is happening to our country. It certainly makes me love the friends that have earned a place in my heart even more.

Truth and beauty is all around us. More and more I find it in the natural world. During this pandemic, our human interaction is limited so I hope for everyone that the contact they do have is patient and loving.

People haven't changed but how we live sure has.

For most of us of a certain age and lucky enough to be born in to privileged lives, ugliness and bad news were infrequent intrusions, usually served up in measured doses in the morning paper or evening news.

Decades past, in the old world truth and beauty was all around and life was mostly sunny. In the new world ugliness and bad news is prevalent and viewing good news, truth and beauty takes effort.

As we have become more busy and information availability increases, those vying for our attention turned to selling fear using shock and awe. It takes active effort to not succumb.

If you were alive in the old world, the transition to this new one is hard but we have an advantage compared to the poor souls who were born into the new one. My heart aches for young people who rarely see truth and beauty. We have to work extra hard to show it to them.

Thank you for helping me understand. I’m pushing on 50’s door and have always lived in beautiful neighborhoods, homes, areas, etc... and have never experienced protests, riots, criminal behavior, etc.
I’ve seen much of the world through traveling and enjoyed the people, food, cultures and experiences. I guess I’m sick of certain people’s behaviors? It’s so uncomfortable. It’s making me cynical again along with a genuine lack of trust.
This feeling is sure uncomfortable. There must be a lesson to be learned from all of this? Maybe it’s once again learning the true nature of people? I’m definitely an empath and absorb people’s emotions lately more than ever. To the point that I only have certain people around me to be comfortable or to feel like myself.
Kurt, you have the words of a kind man and an incredible loving lady by your side. Thank you to both of you for having such big hearts. Sometimes it takes me a bit to see through the smoke and mirrors that our politicians, television personalities and radio hosts are selling us. I want to believe that they are truthful but that’s not the way life is.
I appreciate you and your kindness.
