What is the Tea Party?

Just asking, what is the the Tea Party, what does the Tea Party believe in. I have an idea but only because I am not, but would love to understand what it is and why they believe what they believe?

I love the fact that they love the constitution and appear to use it like a weapon, but do they remember it is not a perfect document as history has shown us over and over. I also love all the Thomas Jefferson quotes. Here is one that sticks out to me. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal". He wrote this but yet did nothing about slavery. What does that say about him as a person? If you look at our history the founding fathers created a nation with a giant flaw. They created a constitution that allowed slavery among other things. We needed a war just to fix that flaw. But we also have a short memory as a country. We hold our founding fathers high on a pedestal but they were not perfect as we are not perfect now. I believe Abraham Lincoln said it best. A great battle was fought so that “government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from this earth”. 150yrs later and we are still kicking. I don’t really understand what the Tea Party thinks has happened. Is it just a fad?

Our form of government as envisioned by the founding fathers is imperfect but is superior to every other form of government known to man. And indeed it was fashioned by imperfect men, but as the only perfect man once said, " he who is without sin, let him cast the first stone." Slavery was the most vexing problem of the time in 1700-1800 America and the country failed to deal with it properly with the ultimate solution costing over 600,000 American lives, the vast majority of whom never owned a single slave.
While no one deserves a pedestal, the founding fathers deserve enormous credit for constructing a system of government that led to the largest economic boom and expansion in history. Our problems today, from ignoring Washington's counsel against foreign entanglements to ignoring Madison's 10th Amendment, come from our departure from the foundation and expanding the size and scope of the federal government. Our solution is therefore simple: return to the system of government designed by the founding fathers.

Key word used? Amendment. This document had to be amended right from the start so if you want to use the document the founding fathers agreed upon I’ll give you the bill of rights but, what about the 17 other good changes to the constitution that happened well after the founding fathers? I believe their key argument is out of context. The constitution is a living and growing document and was meant that way or they would not have left a way to amend the articles. Just a reminder it was the war to end slavery that really put the federal government in prespective. Until that point it was all about state rights but we know how that ended.

Could someone please give me the demographic make up of the Walton County Tea Party: male vs female, under 55 Vs over 55, white Vs non-white, white collar Vs blue collar, etc.

If I had this information I could tell you exactly who the average Tea Partier is and what they believe in (once the fake "let's take back the Constitution" mantel is removed), and I will be 95% accurate.

Any takers?

Maybe you could go ahead and make your point in a clear and respectful way.

AC, I have serious doubts about your demographic methodology being able to determine "exactly who the average Tea Partier is and what they believe in (once the fake "let's take back the Constitution" mantel is removed), and I will be 95% accurate." would be successful.
I can tell you without providing your required demographics but you won't accept or like what you are told.
A "Tea Partier" does believe in the Constitution, the fact it can be amended and when required should be and that it is the primary law of the land from which all other laws should flow.
A "Tea Partier" is normally one who has served their country in one way or another and has strong beliefs in the system of capitalism and assistance to those who need assistance in whatever manner that may be.
A "Tea Partier" believes in a small, compact government that is as responsive as possible to its citizens and realizes it works for them, not them working for the government.
A "Tea Partier" is for a system of taxation that is one in which all are treated fairly. They also believe that the spending done by government should be judicious and meet the goals for which such spending was designed.
I could go on but I will challenge other "Tea Partiers" to add their own attributes of the Tea Party. Members of the Tea Party are not necessarily of a certain age, sex, race, religious backround or political belief but are of the opinion we are headed in the wrong direction and wish to get us back to the right one. And they are right!

The main focus of most members I know is to return to limited government. Each level, federal, state and local has its place and most members wish to return to a place where the federal government stayed out of the state and local business. In a nutshell, most believe that the best government is that government closest to the people it governs.
