Whaddya mean, they're tearing down the place? It's a local icon! Just like Seagrove Village Market...I don't like the kind of "progress" that levels a beloved piece of property just because it's old and in the way. (in the way to who???!!!) Some progress that is. I like old things! Those bungalows at the Motel are pure nostalgia. Guess the Nature Club is going to be chichi like the George Hotel going in at the corner--and no doubt totally forgettable, too.

Do tell SJ where??????? :idontno: I am going to make sure I travel the same week she is next summer!!!!!! :clap_1:

I'm with you Mermaid!!

Ooooh, no. That's a real piece of Americana. :(

Property appraiser's site shows the sale closed last month for $16 million. The buyer is not listed as NatureWalk at Seagrove but it is logical that would be who it is.

I do feel bad for KDW and all longtime devotees of the Seagrove Villas. Beachfront, inexpensive and full of charm ... what more could a vacationer ask for? :( So I understand why it will be missed.

That said, the owners would have been insane not to sell. Recall that Seagrove Villas just constructed a giant seawall in front of its property to protect the villas. I can't imagine insurance is cheap with all those buildings having been built in the 50s. I'm sure the former owners are sad but also relieved (not to mention delighted with the sale price).

It's a big parcel and the owners of NatureWalk can start over and, we can only hope, set an example by building as far back from the dunes as possible. The good news about NatureWalk is that it is by all accounts environmentally friendly and well-designed. If they can rebuild responsibly on that parcel, it's hard to argue that it wouldn't be a good (if still small) thing for the entire area. :idontno: We still seem to be just a hurricane away from severe beach problems.

This is what I was telling myself last night as I was thinking about it. Still, it makes me so sad; just feels like yet another familiar place gone. I think if I were Darlene, I would have :puke: when I found out.
