My Dad is turning 65 next Monday .... Needing some suggestions on how or where to celebrate on a MONDAY night. He loves great music (plays a pretty mean piano himself)! Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! :)

I would check out the Red Bar. It's a SoWal legend. And they have great live music.

And Happy Birthday to your dad!!

Rum Runners opening in PCB at Pier Park. Call and see if they're open and go check the dueling pianos. Afterward walk across to Tootsies for some live country. Maybe Walk over to Reggae J's for some live Reggae. Or well, Pier Park has a lot of stuff.

Thank you!!! We're locals, so we certainly adore The Red Bar ..... But I think we may try Rum Runners - or First Note Music Hall. I really appreciate your recommendations.

Just give him the DVD "Shine a Light," the Martin Scorsese documentary of The Rolling Stones. He will enjoy it unless he is a total nerd and never smoked weed.

My generation re-invented rock 'n roll, and we keep on rolling.

"The Blues had a baby and they called it rock and roll". IMHO there was no REAL rock n roll until the british boys who got off on listening to bootleg (rhythm and blues but mostly blues) radio and then blended it with some roots folk.

The whitey uptight Americans were too afraid of blending chocolate in their music and lives and kept the races and the music divided. Took awhile for them to catch up. But really compared to Europe music is still divided in America.

The first "record" I ever bought was "Do You Love Me?" by The Contours. My older cousin taught me to dance with that song. Then when The Beatles came to the U.S., I became a Beatlemaniac. I think that my current favorite group, The Rolling Stones, combine the best of many cultures -- African-American, U.S. country music, and British rock. The Beatles music is more intellectual, but The Stones music has more soul. IMHO.

Happy 65th to Detail Diva's dad!
