Who's going to pick up all the campaign signs after the election?

New posts
I am all for going out and picking up signs after the election. I think the public should at least give us to the weekend after the election. And I would be for each candidate picking up each others signs. But I went to south Walton today and some of these candidates have literally hundreds out. That sort of makes it hard for all of us to help each other.

Some signs are already being picked up and tossed into the bushes. But very selectively I notice.
I wonder if thats legal.
Cannot be anymore illegal to pick up litter than it is to illegally post the signs on the public right of way. If you want to arrest me for picking up trash, I think I could get some national press coverage, and I believe I would win in a Court of Law. Do you know anyone who likes to see this litter? I've been fairly tolerant of the campaign signs, simply b/c there are greater things to worry about. However, after seeing tons of Celcia signs at select locations, in the last few days, I've considered donning my Hwy-Safety-Orange Vest and picking up some trash. It is one thing to post a single sign (illegally-placed), but it is another thing to post 20 at one intersection. The signs are litter, nothing more, and I'm not just referring to Celcilia's. Paperless campaigns in this day of the internet, are possible. ;-)

FYI : When an individual qualifies for political candidacy, he/she signs an agreement in the Supervisor of Elections office to collect his/her signs within a specified timeframe following the election.
Correct, but they are also supposed to follow the rules, which include not placing signs on the public right of way.

Quit fussing!!

Ya'll jus' quit worrying. I was talking with Stephanie Abrams at the WEATHER

CHANNEL last night and she told me that all the signs would be picked up by

about noon on Sunday. She also assured me that the larger signs would be picked

up first. "There's your Sign"

I heard that Fay was going to only be redistributing the sings to remove areas, and maybe throwing a few of them at cars passing by. She was not actually removing the sings. That redistribution is tentatively scheduled for Sat, three days before the election.

I spent the weekend at our condo at Miramar this weekend, and there are political signs all over 98. I just wonder when the candidates get beat will they pick their signs up.

I was at the redlight at CVS pharmacy Sunday am, and observed a candidate get out and place a political sign on the right-of-way on hwy 98.

He made a point of placing a sign beside his opponents sign. What really surprised me was he didn't just place one, but several all over S. Walton Sunday am.

Before the question is asked....No, it wasn't a sheriff candidate.

The question I have is......On Scenic 98 and the side streets to Hwy 98 the population is mostly tourist, so what will the candidates gain by plastering signs all over the place?

My question is, who's going to pick up the signs after Fay?

I should know for sure on Monday, but after several hours of calling, I believe I have found a place that all these coroplast signs can be taken to and recycled. The owner of the equipment is checking to make sure he can do it, this will keep them out of the landfill, they will actually be ground up into waste and that will be recycled into brand new Hyundai s. So keep that in mind next time you buy one.

Thanks- please keep us posted!

For those of you who don't know, my name is Mark Youngblood. I am President of South Walton Professional Firefighters Assoc.

I hereby promise that all political signs posted by my organization will be removed after the election. (and then some, as usual).

After the primary, we will endeavor to replace the signs supporting the candidates in the decided races with signs in support of the candidates in the undecided races. After the General Election in November we will remove all of our signs. (and then some) even if I have to do it by myself.

I hope you will hold me to it.

Mark Youngblood, President
South Walton Professional Firefighters Assoc.
