I don't know if probiotics boost your overall immune system (I doubt it). They are great if you have a bacterial overgrowth in the gut with a nasty bug like Clostridium dificil after a course of antibiotics. But in general we all have a perfectly balanced zoo of gut flora and probiotics don't do much one way or the other. Also, I googled the brand that was mentioned above and those things are roughly 95 cents per capsule! Now, that is expensive when you consider you could eat half a container of plain old yogurt and get just as much of the friendly bacteria. Vitamins are great for kids but may be overkill if your little ones eat a well-balanced diet. A Flintstone a day is not a bad idea. They sure as heck don't need megadoses of anything or herbs to accelerate growth, focus, etc.![]()
I am so glad you said this because I was hinting at the sugar aspect vs. our natual flora. Some scoff at this idea.Skunky, you are correct in the fact that our bodies should be regulating our gut flora, but the amount of sugars in our foods and carbs people eat can throw off our bodies natural flora, and some people do not fight the bad bacteria as well as others. Yogurt would be grayt if they sold it like they do in Europe all natural, but here they load it with a ton of sugar, and that just defeats the purpose since the bad bacteria feed on it. The only yogurt that I would recommend to anyone is Stoneyfield Farms since they don't have added sugars., But you do not get nearly the amount of probiotic in a yogurt than you would from a capsule loaded with different strains of pro-biotic. A healthy gut helps the body fight off disease.

i have got a flu shot every year for the last 15 yrs, we get them free at work, and if it's free, i'm there dude..... this past march was the first time i have ever got the actual influenza virus in my life and let me tell you, you do not want it !!! my dr buddies at work told me that even tho i had it, it was a mild caseand would've been much worse if i had not received the flu shot....not i understand why it kills the elderly and the already sick in such phenomenal numbers....
Both times it's been during while my husband is out of town. I've been stuck inside with a sick toddler for a full week. Friends leave food and meds on my doorstep. It's miserable. Let's hope it's a light flu season this year. Of course last year was extremely light and my son got it anyway! I'll rephrase. Let's hope no one in my household gets it this year. We've had our share.:!:
