8 lbs! how are you feeling now? I hope you will treat yourself to your favorite comfort foods, at least for a few days, til you feel all better!
Ditto!

I have a self-imposed weigh-in tomorrow morning. I have been bad - have been really stressed for days in anticipation of the mammogram and ultrasound yesterday (it turned out to be normal, thank you Lord). I might have gained a pound. I don't expect any weight loss.

Thanks ladies, I've been trying to pamper myself a little (even indulged in my favorite goat cheese/olive/caper pizza yesterday - which may be a little high in calories despite the healthy ingredients! I tried not to feel too guilty.) BR - glad to hear your tests came out ok - I'm the same way before mammograms. Had to get 3 of them last year due to glitches and I was a wreck until they finally got a clean one back.

Yes, it's pretty scary. Thankfully, where I go they do all of the testing right in the office and keep you there until all of the results are in. It takes several hours, but much less stressful than not getting test results for days and wondering every time the phone rings if you're gonna live or die. Of course, we're all gonna die eventually. But I'd rather last until 90. I used to say 100, but seeing my 83-year-old mother go downhill has convinced me that living to be 100 provides no quality of life.

One way to handle the portion thing is instead of cooking a turkey and a ham, cook only a chicken or two depending on the number of people attending. Same thing with the desserts, instead of cooking cakes and pies, maybe cook one pie and cut into slivers for portions. No leftovers to snack on. Also, many people like to make salads filled with mayo, but instead try some Spinach greens with Olive Oil and Balsamic vinegar, and don't bring out the hot foods until everyone finishes the salad. I know that may be difficult, but the stomach controls the serving hand, and will turn down Spinach Salad for Stuffing every time.;-)

Just tossing out some ideas. Take the ones you like and let the others fly by.

One of the girls at our clinic lost almost 150 pounds. She has kept it off for 5 years. She only eats off of salad plates. She says it helps her portion control.

I am trying. I joined the gym (again!) this week and am trying to make it three days a week.

I know what you mean - one of my grandmothers lived to 101 and at her 100th birthday party she didn't even know who anyone was. It was kind of a bittersweet event. She lived on her own until she was about 93 and was healthy and lucid up to that point.

Good for you, Toots! I lifted some weights today. Now, I am going to go eat fried shrimp, fries and cole slaw. Then I have to go suffer through a client thing at the Mavs game tonight. Must go put my game face on.
