Is something on fire in our area again?

The smoke smell came so fast...we got home about 9, no smell...then all the sudden really strong smell of smoke. I'm still smelling it. And I think it's smoke, not char...it's making my eyes sting.

Won't the fire department come around and warn us with a bullhorn if there is a danger?

Yes, I would imagine they will as the risk is way to high!!

Smell smoke on Cabbage Rose Lane too. Just called the fire department to see if it's been reported and they were already around Bay Drive checking things out. I'm sure they're getting lots of calls.

Could be Black Creek (my words, not thiers) but it smells like new fire (campfire), not an old wet fire.

Don't freak.

Hey the mosquito truck just went by - let's all go out and take a big ol' wif!

I can't believe those little skeeters could breathe this crappy smoky air.

SJ is not concerned and went to bed, so we will need to throw rocks at his window. Or you can play Duran Duran really loud in his driveway.

"Hungry Like The Wolf"

Darken the city, night is a wire
Steam in the subway, earth is a afire
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
Woman, you want me, give me a sign
And catch my breathing even closer behind
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
Hungry like the wolf
Hungry like the wolf
Hungry like the wolf

Burning the ground, I break from the crowd
I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
I smell like I sound, I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf

Is the wood smoke which I am smelling outside right now blowing over from the fires in Eastern FL or is something burning locally? I can tell that the winds have changed this afternoon because the air is cool outside. I am guessing that this smoke is coming from fires very distant to us. Anyone else know differently?

Probably a good guess. Over the past 10 days we've had two cooling spells and almost immediately, we were choked with smoke from fires that were hundreds of miles away. Last Friday morning it was clear and cool and very pretty when I drove my older son to school at 8 a.m. I was thinking how great it would be to have a cool day with no smoke ... and 30 minutes later, ash was falling, the air was thick and heavy, and nobody wanted to go outside.

Apparently it's called "temperature inversion," where the cool air traps smoke closer to the ground. It roared in from the Gulf and dropped ash on cars and people etc.

This weekend the weather is supposed to turn cool again and they predict more smoke. Rest easy guys I bet it is what is happening to you. It moves in really fast. :bang:
