Seashell Fireplace

New posts
It is so beautiful- and so cool that you know the stories about all the shells- where they came from, who gave them to you, etc. I wish we could have seen this today!

I like it very much. It's especially nice that the fireplace is so well placed in your new home because there's a lot to admire and so many vantage places from which to do it. Who knows, BB, this fireplace might inspire you to spend more time in your kitchen! Stand behind those kitchen counters and gaze at the seashells...

OH BB!!!!! It is amazing!!!!!

OH ****!!! I can see all kinds of the shells I sent. TONS of them. BB, it is phenomenal!! I want mine refinished now. hahahaha!

I just returned from another trip to Sanibel .... and had the BEST HAUL ev-ah!!!!

I makes me so happy to know you can actually use all of those I have sent. I thought maybe there was too much junk, the the way they are being fitted show just what treasures they are! Put a sign on the mantle staying "GIfts from the sea"

I  it, BB. Thank you for letting me a part of this!!

 ...that is just a shell of a fireplace!!! Did Donnie write sowal in there using shells? ;-) I am sure you have written all the shells down in a book...the only fireplace to have it's own baby book!!! I am amazed how quickly he finished!!! Good job to you both! I am just guessing that it looks even more spectacular in person judging from your pics.

Marble countertops are great for those of us that don't cook too much!;-) The patina will be awesome!!! We could stand to see some pics when you get around to it!!!

What a beautiful addition to your home!!! It will brings smiles for many years.

Fabulous BB! I can't wait to see it in person.

You will get to see it soon. You can also look at it when you are cooking for the SoWal Slumber Party in a few weeks.

Thanks SD, I want you to see it, you will be amazed at what your contribution did. Donnie (fireplace guy) was really excited about the variety you sent. We loved that you sent them bagged and seperated by type. If you note on the table they are seperated by size, he puts all large in one pile, medium in another and small in it's own pile. He places the large ones first, then medium, then sprays and throws on the smallest blend of shells and pieces, then we add in more and more broken pieces. In the blend of smallest shells, that his 15 year old son swims out and dives for, there even ended up a crab claw! You can see it sticking out.

He said he did one for a lady once that had bought all these perfect shells. He was tormented by her wanting to line them all up in a pattern. He finally said "Look, you want it to look like a beach don't you? Natural and scattered about. Well, just let me break some, add some I brought with me and it will look great." She agreed, he did and it did.

What a beautiful addition to your home!!! It will brings smiles for many years.

Thank you. I have to keep looking at pictures myself. It is much better looking in person.

It has turned out so very special. Come see it soon!

When you come to the top of the stairs, look to your right, it is the first thing you see. It is my favorite part of the new house. Who knows, stranger things have happened, I could spend more time in the kitchen.

Remember all that wood is being painted white. Please don't have a fit as one of my friends did that we were having all the beautiful wood painted.

BTW, SJ said it has good feng shui!

IT'S BEAUTIFUL. I know you will love the fireplace more and more as time passes.

Thanks gull, I can't wait for you to see it this summer.

A book is a great idea. I need to do that. I started a photo journal for the new house, perhaps I need to go ahead and right all of these details now, because I am sure to forget some in years to come.

My island has a wood top. I will tell everyone to use it if they must cook. For me that won't be a problem.
