If you waive their rent they will have alot more disposable income. hoor-rah:clap:

You don't know much about honor then, they don't want a free ride, if they did they would be in Government housing and food stamps. Nothing wrong with those aids when needed, but not as a way of life. They want their dignity.

What about wind and solar energy, aerospace technology, computer sciences, electronic engineering, health sciences?

All admirable. That way those who currently labor in the "tourist industry" can now be security, janitors, carpenters and line labor probably making a couple more bucks an hour.....sorry couldn't resist....

Good luck in your efforts...seriously. But in all honesty, this should have been the approach by the "native waltonians" a couple of decades ago BEFORE the tourist industry became the giant of the community.

bye for now.....

I am a native Walton Countian, and I did speak up years ago. However, the amount of money that was made in real estate was too tempting for most, and the cries of the workers were not heard, and still are not for the most part.

but do you always want to be a busboy, dishwasher,or other low paying non challenging job or say would you rather be a chef, manager or business owner which all require more knowledge and training.
Hey guess what? Most of those chefs ,managers and owners started out as that busboy or dishwasher. Not all the big wigs in the restaurant business around here have trained in a foreign country or have a culinary degree.
Doesn't it create a master/slave environment?
Arent ALL jobs a master/slave environment unless YOU are the BOSS?

You need a degree to work in a restaurant???:idontno:

I was responding to the quote and that being the manager etc required more knowledge and training. Most got that knowledge and training ON THE JOB. But know you dont need a degree but I sure have worked with alot of servers and cooks that have them.

Actually, my occupation as the owner of low income rentals uniquely qualifies me for this statement. These people are doing the best they can, with what is available. Many are struggling to survive in this environment and seem to be ignored by those who could help. Trying to support a family without much opportunity to increase their wage is very difficult. They support my efforts to try to bring a better life for all citizens, not just the elite few.
Who are "those who could help" that are doing the ignoring? And could you give a few details on your "efforts to bring a better life for all citizens" humanoid?

Those who could help are our county leaders. I've been active in speaking out, contributing needed items, and connecting people with those who possibly can help. Trying to provide a safe, clean place for people to live.

At least you get to have a college education, and after you're finished, then what are you going to do? Dig ditches? I've met many in SoWal that have college degrees and can't get a job in their field here, and end up framing houses, or going back to where ever they came from.
Ending up framing houses seems odd to me. I am no dummy and I am in construction. I find framing complicated enough that I would never just "end up doing it". Maybe framing is easier than it looks. Nothing wrong with tact btw.
