Sexual Predators in SoWal

New posts
As JohnRudy said, the one thing you can do is teach your kids. The people on the list may be of concern, but what about the many who go without being caught? Those people don't wear the badge on their sleeve for you to easily identify, and I bet that for every 10 whom are registered, there are at least another ten who have never been convicted, but are guilty. Teach your kids.

Statistics show that the registered offenders are far less of a threat to your family than a close family friend or (gasp) family member. As always, common sense should prevail in talking to your kids and keeping risks in perspective.

You ask what we're not doing. For some good ideas on what could be done, watch the movie Little Children.

The point SJ makes earlier in this thread is valid. In Florida, it's quite easy to be forever labeled a sex offender. Fuzz's nephew has spent time in the Florida Department of Corrections and is on FDLE's site, simply for having consensual relations with a girl who turned out to be 14. Should he have been more careful, or asked for proof of age, or perhaps have just said no? He sure as heck wishes he had. It is rumored that he is the third young man that this girl's daddy sent to prison.

At the same time, there are an awful lot of freaks out there. I guess it's because my husband is aware of every instance of violent crime in SoWal, but it amazes and scares me how many people think we are "safe" here. There are places that are much, much worse, but we aren't immune.

I don't know how active the WCSO's Neighborhood Watch program is anymore, but it never hurts to know your neighbors.

That's why they call it jailbait! :funn:

Did you notice how many of them live in such close proximity to each other? Now, that's freaky~!

they are everywhere, like al pacino said, "they are like cockaroaches." when is squased, there are twenty more to replace that one. what really ticks me off is that these sexual offenders are receiving pell grants to fund their education upon release!!!! our tax dollars hard at work...meanwhile my student loans look like our national debt after the bush admin. that's life!!
ck out the following related article :pissed:

I'm not defending rapist and child sex abusers. I am simply noting that SOME of the sex laws in our country are a bit too inflexible. Take the example of the young man in GA, who was imprisoned for rape, statutory rape in particular. His girlfriend and he had consensual sex. She even tried to defend her boyfriend in Court. He was maybe 17 and she was 16, I think. He was convicted of statutory rape and labeled a Sexual Predator. As the young man sat in jail, the GA Legislature pushed and changed the law, based upon his case as an example. However, they didn't make it retroactive and he stayed in jail. Finally, a few months ago, he was released when the GA Legislature decided that not making the law retroactive was a bad decision.

Again, there are some real sexual criminals out there who should probably be castrated as well as incarcerated, but as I understand it, not all people labeled
"sexual predators" are deserving of the title, which will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Regarding the question why they are moving here? Maybe they always lived here, or maybe the sex offender laws don't allow them to live in towns, due to the close proximity of places where they are not allowed to live, such as schools, day care centers, etc.
I agree completely.

There was a great ep of 20/20 about this last week.
