Walton County Democrats Need Headquarters

Yes, HQ needed. The only requirements are that phone lines are possible and there is some AC. A very visible location would be desirable, obviously. And yes, money is an object!

Please give your suggestions...I've noticed a lot of empty commercial space around here...

What kind of space, square footage would be needed?

Small is fine. We had a donated storefront in SC, about 800 sq. ft., and it was plenty. I'll have to dig up a picture...that place didn't even have drywall, the local high school Obama group decorated the walls with butcher paper Obama signs. Space heaters run by a generator. Fun times.

Small and spartan works. I think being easily accessible is the big key. That, and AC. And a bathroom. I forgot about a bathroom.

Crickets.

No suggestions, people?

How about a van down by the river :idontno:

Punzy, on a somewhat related note, are there any fundraisers scheduled this year in WalCo for Allen Boyd or Bill Nelson that you are aware of?

The only thing I'm aware of is a big music event/voter registration drive. At this point, I think we're a little too small to put together a major fundraiser...that's something we need to look at doing long term, though. I know a lot of people at a recent community meeting had no clue who Allen Boyd was...FYI, SoWal's representative to the US Congress.

It would probably be a good thing to get Walton County on their radars, huh? Perhaps it would help get funding for a couple of projects? As I always told doctors I worked with -- being a one party profession will insure you are ignored on one side and taken for granted on the other. Beach Sand, you have opened my eyes to something -- I bet that goes for a county, too.

Which river were you suggesting? Is it one we can tube?

Actually, both have had fundraisers in the past in Sowal. Boyd's was a early reception for a limited group (bigger donors) followed by a community fish fry at Seaside. It was fairly well attended and was held in 2001 or 2002 about the time Walton County began pursuing their Federal Shore Protection Study.

By the way, he is not only Sowal's representative but also sits on the Appropriations Committee. For anyone that doesn't know, there are three types of elected officials in Congress. Those on the Appropriations Committee, those that are endangered of losing their seat to the other side, and everyone else. I guess you can tell which is the most powerful, especially when you are in the majority.

Nelson's was held in 2006 and was a private affair at a house in WC. It was bigger donors and coincided with his re-election campaign. He and Martinez have cosponsored funding legislation for the same study mentioned earlier for the past two-three years and both are great supporters of Walton County.

The river was a Saturday Night Live reference, but I think you could tube something around Sowal

There is a vacant space in Seagrove - near the yoga place & 30A cabinetry. Dunno if the price will work, but it's definitely in a visible location. Maybe the owner's a Dem and will cut you a deal!

McCain-Feingold is going to be some kind of fun this year.
