Note to Walton County Deputy Sheriffs:

When you park your truck on the beach at night, and leave it running, please turn your lights off, out of respect to people who may be trying to enjoy the dim, moonlit sky. Last night, a Deputy parked his truck on the beach, engine running as usual, with his bright lights shining directly at me. I was out of his field of view, but I was enjoying watching the Full Moon rise, until I grew tired of his bright lights shining in my eyes. The Deputy switched them to dim after being there for five minutes, but he should have turned them off.

SJ, Where were you last night? A false turtle crawl happened at the Retreat last night. It was a Green Turtle and there were tire tracks across the crawl that would have had to happen during the night as it went across the turtle tracks and we were there at 5:30 this morning. We would have seen a TDC truck if it was their morning run.

I have no idea why the crawl was false. I wonder if the Sheriff's dept goes through turtle training? (seriously) I think anyone who was uneducated in the life of sea turtles, would react by shining light on the subject turtle to get a better look, followed by taking flash photos.

Being that it was in The Retreat, my guess is that the owners didn't want the baby turtles on "their" beach, and they got the security guard to chase it back onto the wet sand. (I'm removing sarcasm now.)

Lets not get too harsh with our Deputies. They are entitled to an occasional mistake just as you are.
