I Dont Think I Can Face Facebook !?#@

New posts
I've been on for about 8 months and it's been a wonderful reconnection with many long lost friends. What's nice about it is it's short comments - totally different than sowal. Opinions don't seem to matter, no one flames anyone. It's actually quite nice.

excellent JR. do you use FB for specific purposes (sharing pix, etc), or just a general social network of friends and famly? sounds like you have a lot of funn with it.

and Toots- you can set it up so you don't get an email for everything, only friendship requests. I too was initially overwhelmed with emails when someone threw a snowball or wanted to kidnap you to Russia or Cancun. :floor:

(Sorry you nappers, but I tried it and I still do not understand how that gig works )

well, I was able to figure that out! but I was trying to get some work done and didn't have time to deal with it. my email box was so flooded I cannot even explain (I mean, is this sheeit automated or was everyone sitting at their computer that day sending requests and other stuff?), so I just deleted the hail out of my account. it had to STOP then. I thought I would find another time. and I probably will eventually. hey, can I browse your site or others without being signed up? I would like to look around without committing or putting my name on anything at first.

No, one can't browse anything without being friends with that person. Matter of fact, some people have it set up so that if you searched their name, it wouldn't even show up in the directory. I did set it up initially with a twist on my name and only let family know I was on until I figured out the whole deal. I was on a few weeks before I went "live".

that's cool. why was I getting requests and notices from friends of friends seemingly all at once - many many names I may or may not know? if I turn off the email notifications, then I won't see these? or I won't see them unless I choose to, I assume. the name twist thing sounds like a clever way to start.

this was too precious...
Ahhhhh.....I just now closed the (Face)book for tonight and decided to go into my tried and true SoWal cyber community, and to log into my favorite place, The Lounge--the drapes here may smell like swgb's cigarette smoke, but I truly like it in here and feel very much at home.

spoken like a true sowal lounge lizard. I do believe Hnooe has become a wench.

My first purpose originally was to keep tabs on my son - to check out his friends. Then he surprised me and invited me to be a friend. Then I logged off for a few months and when I returned, I found there were several people (even a sowaller or 2) who had found me and I was hooked in trying to locate others. That's been the best part.

It is nice to see photos of people's kids, vacations, etc.

It's really easy; it's fast. I don't do any of the extra stuff, the games. I jsut don't have time.

The other aspect about FB is there is no reason to hide or disguise yourself - that defeats the purpose. It is totally a networking site.

I've also found others who share in the same hobbies, alumni, college info, art, music - and have been linked to some very helpful sites that I would never have known about. Even local stuff.

Every single person I work with is on FB and they're all older than me. It's not just college kids anymore.

Facebook is alright. I just don't care for most of the applications. Some of them change the toolbars on windows, your browser, or your e-mail. I don't want smiley central or webfetti in my Outlook toolbar, but it's there and probably there to stay. Some of that stuff is pure junk. It's spam. The beauty is, you can ignore the stuff you're not interested in and share all kinds of information with select people.

I grew up in a small town - where my parents still live with the same phone number and address and where all past schools, employers, friends etc. still send mail. My college updates my address faster than the US post office, has a permanent email forwarding system, a secure online alumni directory, and a classmate setup a yahoo group that emails everyone group emails, so I am as "found" as I need to be!

Facebook, myspace, etc. can become TMI far too easily and those pictures are there forever - as some job seekers are finding out!

Go watch this movie or I can always Netflix it for you.
