These are Not Good Reasons to be Against Health Insurance Reform

New posts
Good. Anything in this bill that, in your opinion, shouldn't be? Anything that should be included?

Throwing in the student loan thing was insanity.

I would have liked to have seen cross-state insurance, and personally, I would have phased out the incentive for employer-provided health insurance plans, but I'm an extremist. I want people to have to shop for their own coverage and insurers to be responsible to the end customer instead of selling to employers.

Alan Grayson's idea of allowing anyone to buy into Medicare is interesting, but I have no financial analysis of that proposal so it is hard to evaluate.

I would have liked some standardization of insurance laws between states, because I would like to see standardization of basic policies that would allow the consumer to compare apples to apples.

The Medicare cost containment issue did not need to be in any special bill, we just need to enforce the existing fraud laws.

I think that this is much less pervasive that many had hoped, or feared.

I agree. Each member has a staff of very well qualified people -- many of whom wrote this language. They all know what is in it; and to say it is rushed is nothing but an oppositon party talking point.

The fact is the opposing party has stated that they want to kill this to make it "Obama's Waterloo"...they are not interested in governing; they are not interested in people's health; they (and some of the Democrats) are interested in campaign contributions and getting re-elected.

And shame on the American people if we let them get away with this strategy of obstruction.

No one seemed very concerned with rushing to invade Iraq! I am so tired of the double standard.

We're entering out 8th year of the war in Iraq. Over 6300 coalition soldiers have been killed and tens of thousands wounded. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan cost nearly $1 billion every two days.

Surely we can make sure everyone in the this country has heath care.

You are welcome.

Having been a single mom with a son for many years and being self-employed for much of that time, I am completely empathetic with this writer. And, she is only one of many.

It is beyond time that the private-for-profit insurance industry in this country is called to account. The current situation is unsustainable, and is totally geared to profit that is earned from the illness of American citizens.

While the current bill may not be as good as it could be, and IMO does not go nearly far enough, it is at least a start...and would immediately help this Mom and her child.

It is completely shortsighted for Americans to allow these kinds of situations to exist--and why so many can not understand that, and be willing to do something positive about it, is beyond my grasp.

It may cost too much, but that will not matter in 20 years if children like this woman's son are allowed to languish and, some die, simply to allow another CEO of another insurance company to take home a billion $$ bonus.

And the drug industry is not blameless...I just heard from a deal friend right here in Santa Rosa Beach...she is also self-employed and was just diagnosed with cancer...her chemo started last week, and Tuesday when she went to the pharmacy to get the prescription for the shot she has to have after the chemo...the bill for ONE SHOT WAS OVER $3600.00...and that was after her insurance had paid its portion!

If any of you feel strongly about passing this bill, I would suggest that you call Congressman Allen Boyd who represents us. He voted no before and says he will again...he is also voting against students getting their student loans without going through the middle-man banks, so that students are paying more and waiting longer....I am not sure who is representing, but it's not people without insurance or students in NW Florida who are trying to educate themselves...you can reach him at 202 225-5235 or through this toll free # 1-877-445-1317.

I completely agree with you and couldn't say it any better. I wish the bill was far different, but it does contain some good things that are a definite improvement over the status quo.
