A mother's suggestion for restaurants...

I recently dined at Northport Diner in Northport, AL and absolutely loved what I saw!!! For parents who like to eat out a lot even though they have toddlers, this was a huge blessing and a way for the restaurant to make a little extra money I'm sure.

This restaurant had built in a glass walled room in the corner that was set up just for kids. They had tons of stuff to entertain kids in there so as a parent you could sit at your table and enjoy that after-dinner dessert and coffee without being rushed out by your inpatient toddler. With the glass walls, you could easily see your kids playing without having to get up to check on them. There were huge chalkboards for the kids to draw, toys, table and chairs for artwork, two tvs showing cartoons. Plenty of things for the kids to not get bored.

I would love for my hometown to have restaurants like this one, so my husband and I can enjoy some relaxed meals. Restaurants - please consider. Parents of little ones would really appreciate it. :-)

There's a Chic-Fil-A coming soon, in the mean time there's a McDonald's in Miramar Beach.

More options besides a few fast food joints...

Thanks; however, parents don't like having only those options. Every time you want to eat out it's McDonalds or Chik-fil-a. That gets old real fast. We want normal restaurants. Also, I don't like driving far everyday. We prefer to eat somewhere on 30a close to home during the week. Thanks for the input though.

Fudpucker's is also coming to 30-A, and they've put childrens' playgrounds into their other locations in the area.

Fudpucker's on 30A?

First I've heard of this, where will they be located?

It is tough eating out with a toddler and most people don't do it. But when you're on vacation you almost have to do it. Then again, almost every rental in SoWal has a kitchen, and every restaurant has takeout.

We could use more delivery places.

It's a shame more kids aren't taught the art of dinner manners and conversation. I see many with video games, movie players, or left on their own to run the show of errors.

Northport Diner is pretty good but not as good as it used to be, It was always on our list to stop by on our way to Bham, excellent food.

Fudpuckers is not coming to 30A. It is coming to SoWal on 98.

not yet; there are some design problems, some community compatibility problems and some traffic problems with the intersection...

As good as the concept is, having a restaurant like this on 30-A would be a nightmare for the restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I have two children and when they were toddlers, I loved taking them to places like this in Atlanta, but having a place like this would be awful for the staff and management. You would have to have the place (play room) staffed, perfectly outfitted, cleaned and sanatized constantly and you would have to have parents sign a waiver stating that they do not hold the restaurant responsible for anything, plus you have the danger of other kids doing harm. I see it as a logistical nightmare from a business point of view. It would no longer be a restaurant, but a babysitting service. You would have to pay the staff tons of $$ to get them to work there, thus having to charge tons of $$ for food.

PS (Sadly, not all parents are a contentious as you are ;-))

This being said, there is a wonderful spot on 395 which caters to kids more than many restaurants in the area...Pizza By The Sea :wub:They have toys for the kids to play with at the table and they have a bit of a play area outside. Good pizza and great people!
