What this Congress Did, Inspite of the Party of No

Many seem to forget that Congress has actually accomplished a lot; especially for consumers...
Pay parity; credit card regulation; avoided great unemployment and recession, health care, financial reform....the list goes on.

Yes, unemployment is a non-issue today. The banking overhaul is now going to cost us more money in the form of paid checking accounts. the Healthcare enema was a lie. The CBO numbers are already much higher than dems promised and care will have to be regulated. Everything you proclaim to be proud of is in reality a loose warm stool. The good news is everything you're proud of will be tatooed to your party. And like a tatoo you'll want to laser it off when you get wrinkly or divorced.

Perhaps you can have the Repubs guide the Dems to the same tatoo removal parlor that they have been using to remove all of their tats from their failure of the previous 8 years....

When you have a party in power that sucks more than the previous one apparently.

After reading this post I'm definitely smelling stool, but it's not Progressive policies.

Wait. The credit card legislation was presented / proposed under the 110th Congress and advocated by President Bush in late 2008. From its inception, it was always proposed to go into effect August 2009. A timing issue prevented this from passing under the 110th and did pass under the present 111th Congress, which began (I think) two weeks before President Obama was Inaugurated.

This Congress (IMO) has NOT avoided recession and great unemployment as we were well into a recession and unemployment percentages grew in 2009. Some markets have unemployment approaching 20%, but the national average is around 10%. What did occur was that unemployment benefits were extended from 26 weeks to 99 weeks.

Healthcare Reform and Financial Reform are the two largest pieces of legislation EVER passed in this country. Have they been completely reconciled? I am not opposed to some regulation (we need it to abate crooks, basically), but the financial industry has been regulated since 1934. This became law in the midst of the Great Depression, which was created by brokers selling worthless securities / paper.

Under the 'guise' of regulation, many feel safe - unfortunately many 'felt safe' placing their money with Bernard Madoff......afterall, he was heavily regulated.

I am not convinced the 111th has placed policy before politrix. The jury is still out on this one.

Actually Bernard Madoff was virtually unregulated.

Credit Card reform was passed under the 111th Congress and signed into law by Obama, deal with it.

We have all dealt with it and it's a great piece of legislation. Just stating additional facts as to its inception so that history isn't rewritten.

Madoff had a securities license from teh 1960s and he was regulated. The safe police people of the regulatory commission dropped the ball. Just pointing out that you aren't necessarily safe when an industry is regulated.

Deal with the facts!

Kind of like all those folks that got raped by Mortgage Brokers?

The theory that regulation is bad because people occasionally get away with illegal activities makes no sense. Without regulation 100% of the people breaking the law get away with their behavior.

Not exactly. People relax their guard - this theory extends itself in both directions. Madoff was reported and the safe people ignored the claims. Potentially, since regulation is safe, had the safe people performed their safe jobs, not as many people would have lost millions as unfortunately did happen.
