MSNBC talks to Rep. Gabrielle Gifford about the death threats, vandalism and harassments. Aired 3/25/10.

From the Congresswoman:

?Sarah Palin has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district and when people do that, they?ve gotta realize there are consequences to that action.?

I didn't realize that members of Congress don't have routine security, even at official events. But that is the case according to a N.Y. congressman interviewed on CNN.

In this interview with Representative Gifford she makes the statement about not being afraid due to the threats of violence. She urges political and community leaders to denounce the threats and come out forcefully against incendiary rhetoric.

I really think we all should not tolerate the incendiary rhetoric anywhere we see it!

Turns out that the Congresswoman is not deceased, but Federal Judge John Roll (apparently) attending the event is.

The surgeon just addressed the press. The Congresswoman is out of surgery and they are optimistic. He also said that a 9 year old child has also died as a result of the incident.

I wonder if she was the target? Or if the judge was? or....???

The shooter (a 21 yr old white male) is in custody.

Judge Roll was in the news earlier this week in Arizona Judge asks to delay felony trials

Thank you.
I will never understand why there are not a kajillion rules around acquiring something that is used intentionally to kill.

I'll tell you why - the 4th poster in a breaking news thread about someone shooting 12 innocent people including a Congresswoman, a federal judge, and a 9 year old kid was worried that "they" would use this incident to "take away rights."

Guns, the NRA, and the related politics have nothing to do with logic or reason and everything to do with fiery rhetoric and knee jerk reactions.

ANY attempts at restrictions and common sense rules are fought tooth and nail. And felons and crazy people will continue to easily get weapons that they use to shoot many innocent people as long as that continues.

Congressmen were clamoring to be the one who got to read the 2nd Amendment Thursday. The same Congressmen hold the rest of the Constitution in such high regard that they didn't stay the entire time and hear the rest of it.

P.S. I don't hate guns, I like to shoot guns for fun, and I like to eat what my family shoots with guns. I don't want to take away your guns, I just want to make it harder for criminals and crazy people to get guns - especially guns whose intended purpose is to easily kill many people.

Her district was on in Sarah Palin's crosshairs. I understand the Palinista web site has scrubbed the crosshairs.

Regarding the gun-crazed, momma grizzley, Sarah Palin. I think politically speaking, she knows exactly what she is doing, but doesn't really "get" the gravity of her stupid remarks, or how some derranged people might choose to re-interpret them.

She is really an accessory to any violence that may occur because of her comments. I hope this tragic event ends up taking her down a few notches further, or at least makes her think about what she says--but I doubt it.
