Sleeping Giant Awakes

New posts
Really, the Tea Party was born during 2008 and 2009 during the federal bailouts. Those were primarily implemeted by democrats! But you guys think the Tea Party is the bad guy for suggesting we not bailout corporations and we try to live within our means?

Not true. The bailouts began under President Bush in 2008.

You are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.

What percentage of the middle class are members of a union?
The latest figure from the Burea of Labor Statistics is that 11.9% of the American workforce belong to a union. It has been steadily dropping for the last few years. Most of these union members would be considered middle class. This hardly constitutes a sleeping giant.

AndyA the way I read the article, it's not that the union is the "sleeping giant"...it's that the situation focused on the people's right to bargain, has brought attention to what is really going on...and all kinds of people, union members or not, are awakened to the inequities.
Following Thursday's passage of the Wisconsin bill, hundreds of students in Madison?s middle and high schools walked out to join those demonstrating at the capitol. Then, in the largest protest since the bill was proposed, an estimated 100,000 people filled the streets and squares around the state capitol on Saturday. The Family Farm Defenders and the Wisconsin Farmers Union joined the protests, bringing more than 50 tractors with them.

?This is the beginning of phase two,? Fred Risser, one of the 14 Democratic senators, told the crowd.

He was referring to a rapidly growing campaign to recall eight GOP senators who supported the bill; the Wisconsin Democratic Party reported yesterday that over 45 percent of the necessary signatures have already been collected.

And you're entitled to spin his post any way you want while ignoring the fact that most of what he says is true. I attended the 1st Tea Party rally in Walton county in the summer of 2008 at the South Walton County Court House Annex. Their complaints, goals and concerns then were the same as they are today and one of those complaints were the wasteful spending of tax dollars by any means and by anyone, be they Republican, Democrat or Independent. These are facts, Buz, but since you weren't there to the best of my knowlege, you are welcome to ignore them and, as you so often do, consider the source because it doesn't agree with you.

Buz, the bailouts in 2008 were passed by a democrat lead congress! Hello! Nanci Pelosi and Harry Reid. I rememeber the TARP vote, there's a thread on here from back then where all the tea partiers were gunning for it to fail (including myself.)

I am sorry to have to disagree but I do not see the right to have a job and NOT pay dues that can be spent in a manner with which I do not approve, as inequities to employment. (Now, the 4 members here and the 29 present can read this while the 151 guest meander elswhere.)

AndyA it's okay if you disagree. It does not bother me that you disagree with my point of view, I disagree with some of yours too. We can have a discussion without agreeing, I think. Perhaps, you are reading the article too narrowly, though.

The inequities are not just about employment...the issue of the unions and collective bargaining has awakened many people to the thought that" if this can happen to the unions, then what else can happen?"...the big picture and the overall goal of the Republican governor is what has people in Wisconsin up in arms. ( especially when the Koch Brothers and GPS Crossroads are factored into the equation).

The union issue is just the spark that awakened "the giant" (the people in general).
