Hurricane Dorian

New posts
BREAKING: Hurricane Dorian today became the “strongest hurricane in modern records” for the northwestern Bahamas after it grew into a Category 5 storm with 180 mph sustained winds and gusts of up to 220 mph. The path also shifted slightly west today so more of Central Florida is in the cone of uncertainty.

Walton County Emergency Management
Sunday Sep 1

Here is the latest on Hurricane Dorian from the NHC. Dorian is now an extremely powerful Category 5 storm.

Walton County is not expecting any impacts from Dorian over the holiday weekend. We do not have nor anticipate having any evacuations, bridge closures, or any other protective actions. We cannot make any decisions for you whether you should continue your vacation in beautiful South Walton. We can only provide you information to help you make that decision.

WCEM and our partners will continue to monitor this system and will provide another update tomorrow morning.

We are in the height of hurricane season and urge all to be prepared should a system come our way. Make sure you, your family, and your business have a disaster plan and kit with at least 5 days worth of supplies. Build a Kit. Make a Plan. Be Informed.

I pray that the warm, kind people of Hopetown, Marsh Harbor, and Green Cay survive this. I have many good memories of those places.
