What are your plans if coronavirus were to appear in our area?

As the author of the beginning of the thread, I have since become unemployed. I am the sole caretaker of an elderly parent so my safety is a priority. When I saw our state and county close ranks I felt buoyed by this action. Even though there was still a sense of foreboding, in our small area, the locals were able to go outside, use the bike path and gaze at the beach for a moment of respite from the news. Now again, I am feeling a high degree of uncertainty about maintaining health and safety, income, sanity from the tourists while at Publix (even though obviously I know businesses here are welcoming the income) all the while watching the positive cases rising. Where do we go from here? I am watching our officials try to make decisions...meanwhile, I'm choosing to maintain my isolation. What about you?

Hello SeaFern,

Since mid March I have had the opportunity to work 4 times. The stimulus paid for one BCBS medical bill. I’m grateful but I don’t understand how that helped much at all? Many of us are still in the same boat. My parents caught the virus and survived but will never be the same due to complications from the virus. I try to get outside a little but still maintain a comfortable distance and try to avoid entering enclosed areas or buildings without a mask. I’m not a Democratic or Republican and don’t see masks as a political issue as many people do. I’m curious as too the number of cases we’ll see in a few weeks to our locals in the service industry? Also with the craziness of what’s happening during this pandemic in so many major cities in our country. Yesterday some of my family members in Santa Monica were very frightened because the riots were more than close to their homes. My eyes are open and this pandemic has changed my views in many ways. Please stay safe

T-Z, so sorry to hear about your parents. I can only imagine it is adding to your stress and must be very hard. Thanks for sharing your situation.

Most of my local friends here are pretty much isolating as well, lucky to either have the means to do so or collecting benefits. My friends scattered around the US are either working from home or at home, unemployed. Maybe it's just me but I'd like to hear more information about our local contract tracing plans, medical facility or community plans, as positives continue to increase. Will we have more testing options and antibody testing in the near term? It feels like the situation is very much reactionary instead of proactive...but perhaps I am out of the information loop?

In regards to my parents, my Dad’s chances of survival are slim to none even after being Covid free. My Stepmom never had any symptoms but is negative as well. There is so much that the nurses have told me that has not hit TV news channels...
I am in no way, a person of means nor do I come from a well to do family. When someone passes in my family, “ I owe money “. I don’t inherit a plantation. Like many people I’ve been watching my dreams disappear. My heart goes out to people that express love, tolerance and understanding for others.

T-Z, that is just heartbreaking to hear. Again, I'm so very sorry! I lost my father 4 months ago, (not Covid, influenza) but he lived a wonderful long life, which does help me cope with the loss. It really is hard. I hope you can find support among your family & friends. I've recently started using a meditation app called Headspace, free to unemployed for a year. It's really helping me. Meditation is not that mysterious, just lets you take time to breathe and start to process all the chaos.

Thank you and I’m so sorry for your loss. My goodness, the amount of different and fluctuating emotions I’ve experienced was something I’ve never gone through before. I feel for you.
I don’t have a single bad memory with my Dad. He’s been my best buddy since I was born. I guess I’m in self preservation mode or just aware and trying to heal mentally. I’m just grateful that I can speak to him daily. His memory starts over every day now ( which is not the worst of his conditions ) so I get to have a little fun with him and then he realizes that I’m messing with him and laughs and laughs!
Wow, lately I’m sure I’m not the only person that’s been learning a lot. I have been practicing meditation for years now and it brings me peace. Tks for the suggestion. I also have the lady of my dreams with by my side. We’ve been together for over 23 years and love each other like there’s no tomorrow.
My prayers go to you and your family. Please stay

I'm tired all the time after all this stress and anxiety. All I want to do is stay home going out only when I have to. I'm at the point now where I don't know if it is because of recent events or if I've always wanted to be at home but was forced to work and socialize and face people. I don't know if I'll ever go back to the way I was. Social media isn't helping it is making it worse I fear but I can't stop. And I'm afraid to travel which used to be a relief. Can't go visit family either. Anyone else feel this way and how are you coping?

I have eaten at three restaurants in the last couple of weeks. Left some others because of lack preventative measures. First one we sat outside away from others, the second and third they had spaced diners far apart and all employees in all three wore masks. I felt uncomfortable on the dining room experience so not sure I will be eating inside in the future, may just do take out or patronize those with outdoor seating. I wear a mask all other times I’m out and will just go back to self quarantine if cases increase in our area. Being retired I have that luxury and realize many can’t afford to.
