We are thankfully 2 days away from our first big local election in Walton County since my family moved here in October 2006. Do so many candidates always run for a few offices? It seems that there was a lot of ugly campaign tactics used- is that normal for here?
I am getting to the point where I really don't care who is sheriff anymore - I just want all the candidates and their supporters to hush! And when my first thought of the morning is the BCC race- it is a sign that it is time for this election to be over!
Can I expect life to return to normal after Tuesday, or does the campaign negativity keep up at a fever pitch for awhile?
Maybe some of you that have lived here longer can give me the good news that we can get "back to business" soon.

Sheriff's races are traditionally the worst because the ordinary citizen does not know enough about the real issues so they (candidates) substitute dirty tricks.
The most important issue in that race for me this year: "arresting tourists on the beach for trespass/ enforcing the county ordinance against parking on the bikepaths" has hardly been mentioned by any candidate. Makes for a hard choice.
School Board races are usually the focus of parents who are having problems with a school and their children. The other constitutional offices usually draw little interest or candidates unless the office is not being operated correctly.
