American Sniper

New posts
Full of deception and deceit? He was an entertainer for chrissakes! I suppose we need to question the integrity of Clint Eastwood. He was an actor most of his life. A profession full of deceit and sham. Need more be said about his character.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...ie-clint-eastwood-is-incredibly-anti-war.html Whatever your political interpretation of American Sniper, it is somewhat surprising that the 84-year-old director has attracted this kind of criticism, simply because Clint Eastwood is incredibly anti-war.

“I was against going into the war in Iraq since I figured we would probably trip over ourselves in some way,” Eastwood said following a screening of American Sniper in Beverly Hills. “I had a big question when we went into Afghanistan. Did anybody ever study the history of Afghanistan, not only with the British, but the Russians?…Contrary to public opinion, I abhor violence.” When Eastwood delivered his bizarre chair-Obama speech at the 2012 Republican National Convention, he somehow got the audience to applaud his dovish criticism of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan.

“I know you were against the war in Iraq, and that’s okay,” he said to invisible chair-Obama. “But you thought the war in Afghanistan was okay. You thought that was something that was worth doing. We didn’t check with the Russians to see how they did there for the 10 years.”

When Jessie Ventura meets a chair he doesn't talk to it like a p***y, he picks it up and beats the crap out of his opponent with it.

No poppy, he just behaves like one by going after a widow and her small children with his pathetic attorney. Big tough man.

I would have hated to hear the commentary on Platoon or Apocalypse Now, gawd forbid Full Metal Jacket. Oddly enough all directed by very vociferously anti-war directors.

He throws a mean chair, and I don't feel too sorry for the liar's widow and kids, because they are doing just fine. The defamation suit was covered by the publisher's libel insurance for one.

For the Kyle family, then, the legal tribulations surrounding American Sniper are probably wrapping up, and Taya Kyle will likely pay some damages but walk away from the affair with many millions of dollars left to her name. (HarperCollins’ libel insurance, in fact, will cover her defamation damages.) But for Kyle’s publisher, HarperCollins, the nightmare is just beginning. Several months after the verdict against the Kyle estate, Ventura brought another lawsuit for unjust enrichment, this time against HarperCollins. The lawsuit explains that while Kyle is the one who defamed Ventura, HarperCollins played up those defamatory statements in order to boost its sales—and with reckless disregard to the truth of Kyle’s claims.

Here's the link. It's explained in the article that defamation suits are very difficult to win, so this is very telling. Even so, clearly from a financial standpoint, as the article says, it pays to lie.

No, he went after the insurance company of a liar.

Sorry leader I didn't see your post before responding.

A movie that's disturbing could be a masterpiece. I just think if you walk out of a movie like this feeling good, then there is either something wrong with the movie, or something wrong with you. If this is a movie that changes you and rearranges you, then more power to it.
As inexplicable as it seems, you may have contributed an interesting insight. I have always been fascinated by the fact that a great many masterpieces in all sorts of art, are intriguing primarily because they are disturbing. They transport us to an uncomfortable place. Dark Side of the Moon, Guernica, Salvidor Dali. Any comments?

The interesting thing about this film seems to be that it is a fictional story based on a book written by a man who liked to tell tall tales and these tall tales helped fill his pockets with money which is ok. No one doubts he was an exceptional sniper and he loved his country and the men he served with. You are suffering from cognitive dissonance if you can't bear the thought of Kyle being a hero and a liar at the same time. Go enjoy the movie, but remember, it's not a documentary so stop getting upset when someone reminds you of this fact.
