Also, when resizing a .jpg image, it's better to resize in increments rather than in one step, due to the compression algorithm used for jpegs. In other words, don't go directly from a 2272 by 1704 photo to 200 by whatever. Take it in incremental steps. My rule-of-thumb is resizing to 1800 by whatever (preserving the aspect ratio, of course, which is why I say "whatever"), to 1400 by whatever, to 1000 by whatever, to 600 by whatever, to 200 by whatever. The final quality of the image will be much better. I will refrain from explaining the mathematical reason why that's true. It's on the 'Net.Smiling JOe said:For avatars, you may have a max size of 200x200. If you have any other photo program, even one that came with your camera, you can probably pull down the edit menu, and find something regarding, "image size," which will allow you to adjust the size to any size you want. if the photo is not already a perfect square, just change the longest length to 200, and the other side should adjust accordingly as to not skew the image. If you started with a very large photo, you may want to "sharpen" the image when reducing that small. You can probably find that button under the "enhance" or "effect" menus.
