AZ sheriff blames political rhetoric

New posts
Bear in mind you're dealing with a lot of all or nothing black and white thinkers. To them it's either 100% due to hate-mongering or it's not at all due to hate-mongering. There's no possibility of multiple factors. Nope, it's either one thing or the other. Once they find out the shooter is deeply disturbed, then they immediately jump to the conclusion that hate-mongering had nothing to do with it. Of course this invalidates everything the Sheriff had to say. Unfortunately, there are too many all-or-nothing thinkers in positions of power and influence. We don't need any more.

To date no evidence has emerged tying the perp to any political position (or rhetoric.)

I doubt that anyone thinks the ugly rhetoric in politics today is good but using this event to argue against it is no different than maintaining that vaccines are bad because MMR vaccines cause autism. It weakens the argument because there is no basis in fact for the position and is apparently wrong.

I know that using facts is a foreign and distasteful process for many people (they view it as being 'black & white'), but it often yields the best results.

If that's your analysis of the situation, I rest my case.

I think people seek news mediums that best fits their views. For example I don't watch news on television or listen to it on the radio. I look at the internet. I look at Fox, ABC, CNN, and MSN. It's mainstream....much like me. I'm not all right (so i've been told:lol:) and i'm not all left. For someone who is violent, I would suspect they seek out news that appeals to them. I haven't ever gone there to search, but i imagine the internet is full of all kinds of sites that promote all kinds of deviance. I don't believe there is anyONE to blame here except the shooter and his own deranged view of the world.

You have this all wrong. The right didn't jump to any conclusions YOU jumped to a conclusion and we questioned you on it. It all started with that sheriff's speech.

Don't you think she was targeted because she is an office holder? Whether or not it was because of her specific stances, I don't know, but I can't escape the political nature of the crime. Of course there were other factors. I think the governor of AZ has a responsibility to comment on the hate that is spewing through her state regardless of whether a link can be established between the Arizona political climate and this shooting. Now is as good a time as any to bring these issues to the forefront, and as far as I'm concerned, this climate exists across our nation to a degree. Why did that idiot Palin take the gun sights off her web page? Because she obviously knew all along that it was alluding to second amendment remedies. She was just too stupid to realize until now how far reaching and tragic the consequences of her philosophy could be.

and on this thread, the first jump was right there ^^.

Wrong, Palin took down her gun sights specifically because of the shooting. There is no jumping to conclusions on my part for pointing that out. So again why did she take it down? was it to appease those on the left? Was it to avoid criticism? Was it because she feels complicit? Whatever it was, her reasons are directly related to the shooting.

I think the Sheriff, since he is not a Monday morning quarter back, understands the mentality of many in his town, much better than any of us. We'd all probably like people to speak with some sense too if we had to go running around putting out fires like law enforcement does. Even the secret service has said it's worse than ever. How someone can put a scope sight on a person, tell their followers to take them out and then, oh wow, it happens. Yeah, never could have seen that coming. :sarc:

Speech is free, but that doesn't mean it doesn't come with responsibility. Next time you're in a building filled with people, yell fire. See how that works out for you!
