This is my how I feel also.
It isn?t about banning or legislating.
It?s about all of us being willing to speak out against inflamatory rhetoric, vitriol, and the like if we do not like it - and expecting the same from our representatives, news media, pundits, etc. It doesn?t mean they have to do it, just that maybe they won?t if there is no benefit or if there are negative repercussions. If incivility, vitriol and the like doesn?t work then there is a better chance that it will be used less. I would think incendiary remarks would have the greatest effect on unstable people who are less likely to process in the way intended.

.who is talking about legislating anything? I am talking about demanding our elected officials and our news media act with some maturity about their choice of words...and to realize that the words of those who are seen as "in power" do have consequences...it is up to the American public IMO to say enough is enough and demand-- through w/drawing advertising and voting differently and writing, calling elected officials, that the violent language stop.
And, besides, what is the benefit of such language? Just on the off chance that it might be correlated someway, Is one word of it worth the life of that nine year old, the judge, the other innocent ones? And, now that I've read the other posts before this one, if this tragedy causes our country to look at the kind of language we are using in our political and media arenas, and then, causes even one of the participants to change his or her behavior, then, I think it is a good thing to get from the tragedy...just because we have the freedom to say or do something in this country, does not mean we should do it just because we can.
