The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for Walton County Florida has a footnote under each section describing the "retirement contributions" made on behalf of each fulltime county employee.

The contributions seem to be tilted in favor of a few.

Regular employees - 9.85% of annual salary
Employee's In DROP Program - 10.91% of annual Salary
Special Risk Employee's - 20.92% of annual salary
Senior Management Employee's - 13.12% of annual salary
Elected officials - 16.53% of annual salary

Does this breakout make any sense to YOU !

Gee, I thought FRS set the employer contribution.

There's a retirement seminar next week; should I ask?

But from where? Does it just become deficeit (sp?) or does it create a new tax need. Trying to learn.
Is there a feel for the type of wages being thrown across these percentages just for example?

It is something that must be funded. So we have to either pay higher taxes or do without things. Over the last couple of years, Walton County has added a significant number of individuals to the Senior Admin classification. All were advertised at public hearings and no discussion against doing it was ever undertaken that I can recall. It is just another way to compensate people.

The rates are set by FRS. I understand a hazardous pay difference , but Ronnie Bell, Pat Blackshear are highly compensated individuals - why would they have those substantial differences in the retirement contributions. Also why are Elected officials, Clerk, Supervisor of Elections, Property Tax collector, County Commissioners, etc treated SO WELL ?

BCC Retirement Contributions for past three years Are

2005 - $2,711,500
2006 - $3,581,969
2007 - $4,649,800

Clerk of Court Employees

2005 $174,697
2006 $205,967
2007 $266,174

Property Appraiser
2005 - $69,037
2006 - $83,692
2007 - $109,170

Tax Collector
2005 - $60,685
2006 - $78,385
2007 - $114,574

Supervisor of Elections
2005 - $26,348
2006 - $30,330
2007 - $39,070

Sheriffs Office
2005 - $1,087,404

I doubt you see it this year, but I would bet that everyone better get ready for a significant tax increase next year. These numbers are unsustainable without some serious work. The BCC numbers are pretty extreme. I wonder who was in charge of things to let them get that far out of whack.

WOW! I recall the story about the mosquito control director salary being something like $124K and all I could think was what for?......
Who is in charge of setting these salaries? Perhaps this needs more citizen input.
