Caught a shark from our dock!

What fun! We will be bringing grandchildren down next week for the last family trip of the summer. This might be a good time to try fishing the bay. Am not familiar with the bay, so would appreciate any pointers as to good access points, etc. Would rental of boat ensure a more successful fishing expedition, or can it be achieved from a public access?

Hi BeachBebe, There was a really good discussion thread (or two) recently about fishing the bay and alternative ideas to beach fishing/swimming, I'll try to find them and 'bump' them up for you to review. Have a great time!

There are lots of good fishing spots from land...331 Bridge, 395 north directly to Tucker Bayou/Bay, 393 north and you will see the waterfront park on your left. All good for fishing and crabbing. Enjoy!

Love that pic, and what fun. When we were there in may my daughter caught one from shore that thrilled her to no end. And off the pcb pier we caught three smaller ones over the 4th weekend. Always exciting.

Cool, ChillPill. Caught one off my dock at Lady's Is. a few years ago and was also surprised, shocked and thrilled. Was just getting to dive in and thought, "Mama Shark is close by, I bet." The deltas are not shark free, it seems.

It appears to be a perfect shark nursery! I love knowing they are there and learning about them. Some of their favorite menu choices are mullet and stingrays. They are typically quite docile. When the babies grow up, they will come back here to give birth.

Not trying to start an argument, but that is more likely a bull shark than a black tip, IMO. Juvenile bulls have black edging on their fins which fade as they get older. Bulls are fairly common in the Choctawhatchee and surrounding bayous.

Sure, it certainly could be a bull shark, I really don't know. :idontno: I just repeated that it was a black tip because the local fishermen that were here identified it as that.
