Chair rentals left on beach

New posts
Bingo! Very accurate statement! beachma...are the chairs and umbrellas left set up on the beach or placed by the dunes? (both are wrong, imo) My question is...how did some beach chair rental companies get a waiver/sticker that allows them to leave stuff on the beach?

Do they give classes to the turtles teaching them what beaches to avoid when they come on land to lay their eggs?
Lets have a little perspective regarding this. First, let me say our beach rental company never leaves their stuff on our beach overnight. Maybe I shouldn't say "never" that is never a good idea. Secondly, they have 69 steps to go up and down at our complex. So before you start knocking all beach rental companies be aware some are trying to do the right thing.

Okay, but I think the right thing is to remove all things off the beach at night. Either they do that or they are in violation of Remove it or Lose it, no? :idontno:

Well, there was a time I remember for years that they actually chained them to beach walks and stacked them under the steps...after Ivan & Dennis knocked out the beachwalks within 8 or 9 months of each other, I haven't noticed chairs being stacked and chained. Mostly what we see are that they are just left up on the beaches day after day. And, to clarify...I have watched lots of companies that set up and take down and haul their chairs up however many steps every day...but not all of them do that. I still think it's a double standard that sends a mixed message to visitors. In October of 2007 we were lucky enough to watch a turtle hatching by Seagrove Villas...it was amazing to be there and witness that! The turtle people were doing their best to smooth a path for them because even the tire tracks from the County trucks created a barrier for them! It just takes seeing that once in your life to realize why it is so important to haul your stuff up...no matter how many steps you have to climb!

My 2 cents for what it matters: I've been coming here for over 30 years. There's always been items left on the beach. Two years ago, they started tagging the items that were left on the beach. Didn't work in our area because they tagged on Tues. night or Wed. a.m. and stated that items must be removed by Friday night. Well guess what--most people remove their stuff on Friday to leave on Sat. Zero accomplishment. Last year---no tagging to the best of my knowledge.

We did notice a decrease in the amount of stuff left on the beach last year in our area. Not saying that all packed out, but a lot of visitors did. IMHO The beach vendors are probably on the bottom of my list for attacks. They do,( not all but most) bring their chairs up to be base of the dunes or steps. They do this everyday. They also come and remove everything in the event of a storm. They usually place their items in a small orderly space--not just thrown around. This area is usually smaller than the large boxes that sit on the beach. It's not like they take up every inch of space out there. Orderly and small confined area is a lot better than the camps left for the week.

I think if we want to take aim at something, it should be the items that are just left in the middle of the beach for the week. The trash that just floats and flies everywhere. The holes that you could bury someone in--most are dug out with shovels. People and wildlife meet again. I'm all for the turtles survival. I feel that there needs to be some form of compromise. I don't believe that you will ever get it totally clean of everything.

We need to pick and try to work with ideas and ways to make us appealing to the tourist and the turtles. It bothers me to hear all the fighting about who right and who's wrong. I never hear let's get together and do the best we can to make both sides work. There is no perfect in this world. You know as well as I do that so many of the people have no idea about vacationing here. The water, the dunes, the turtles etc...Most are nice and are willing to abide by rules if met with kindness.

They are the first to say " I didn't know that". Meet these people with an attitude and they will bite your head off. Because we have allowed people to take their stuff to the beach and leave it, it's partly our fault. Now we're trying to get people to use some of our beach vendors and cut down on the amount left on the beach, now that's just not good enough. Let's work together, there are so many fights about this and that around here that my head just spins. Give and Take--Give and Take.

I say just take your crap home with you when you leave each day. I do, hasn't killed me yet.
