Why do you feel compelled to carry out personal attacks on me? Because I don't agree with your position? You do not know me from Adam, but you are more than happy to generalize. One thing I always notice about liberals, they are all about freedom of expression, tolerance, etc., etc., as long as others agree with their position, if not, there is hell to pay.And to answer your question, I was in Carbondale, IL, on the campus of Southern Illinois University, at one end of an M-14 rifle, with a fixed bayonet on the other end. I was 19 years old, in the Illinois national Guard, had returned from Fort Leonard Wood MO in February of 1970, we were called to duty on May 5. I spent the first night there in the back seat of an IL state police cruiser with another soldier, and two state policeman in the front seat. At dawn the next morning, there was a stream of students with suitcases, leaving the dorms and heading to the train station, as one of the cops put it "there go the good kids". I would not sleep for the next three days and nights. Over the next two and a half weeks our company, the 1244th, was assaulted with bricks, thrown baseball bats, construction bolts, cherry bombs, and anything else the peaceful liberal protesters could get their hands on. Several of us ended up in emergency room. There was an attempt (by the peaceful liberals) which was barely thwarted, as we were severely outnumbered, to burn down Woody Hall, the main administrative building on campus. One night while guarding one of the campus buildings, we were bombarded by plastic baggies of human excrement, thrown by a large contingent of hippie girls, had to give them an A for creativity. Another night on guard duty, I was on a campus street where traffic was being diverted, as it was not safe to drive on highway 51, due to the peaceful protesters. A car with a middle aged couple from Minnesota stopped to ask directions, the lady says to me "what is happening to this country?", and then she totally breaks down in tears. It bothered me that the lady was so upset, the magnitude of what was happening in front of my young eyes had not quite set in. I got to spend my 20th birthday being cursed and spat at, the girls were the most vitriolic, imagine that! One was nice though, a spaced out flower child who insisted that our rifles would look better with flowers in the muzzles. So no, Bob, I was not "praying in bed", I did not see a bed for the entire period. You will be most delighted to know that I did not shoot a single person. Hate to spoil your Black Panther party.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgd2F2QNfEE carbondale, ill. home of a huge vietnam war protest. were you there??? were you praying in bed???
