Concealed weapon permits in Walton County

I would agree with most of what you said, oh wise one. The poverty and ****ty schools are what keep violent crimes in motion. Too many unwanted children coming into this world really starts the ball rolling. Birth control and abortions just maybe reasonable small steps in that portion of the problem.
But what is the matter with our government installing some kind of regulation on guns. The fact that our government does nothing, is basically an endorsement that guns, and more guns are a good thing.

To dumb this thing down, we are now a nation that considers guns as treasures and toys and there is simply no "parent" to say no, Johnny, it isn't right to kill....

Dammit, our government is condoning this!

The government already does plenty to regulate guns. The inconvenient truth is that scofflaws intent on doing harm with a gun don't give a rip. Can someone figure out how many Massachusetts gun laws were broken by the jerk Chechen brothers last week?

My point is that sometimes the government has to show some substance as an instrument of moral leadership, not just a dispenser of meaningless laws. We have to deal with the gun culture that foments a society that breeds "seemingly normal" people who demonstrate no respect for human life.

Do you think the government or Hollywood is more to blame for violent gun culture? One problem is that our movies and video games increasingly glamorize gun violence while our governing class generally demonstrates no appetite for imposing 'morality' on anyone.

I do not have an answer for the violence we are drenched in through movies, TV and video games. I think since there seems to be a vacumn in good parenting, the government has a duty to try to set some sort of moral tone.
I know is vague. I know this sounds like "nanny state". It just feel like government is saying "just do what you want" about gun violence... is this good parenting...is this government?

I have two boys ages 26 and 21 and both have played 1st person shooter videos games for years and neither has violent tendencies - It's all in the parenting and setting proper examples at a very young age. I also own a gun but two things seem to strike me in this debate and they are all tied to common sense. First, close the loophole at guns shows plain and simple. The 2nd Amendment was set forth by wise men at the time for a very logical reason. I do think if you asked Ben Franklin what he though about assault rifles he'd have a very different opinion in todays society. And by the way, if a hunter tells you he needs an assault rifle to hunt, in my opinion he or she should NOT BE HUNTING!!!

Let's not forget the very real violence that exists in the sports that we embrace so much. These are activities that we encourage our children to get involved with, and participation is seen as a sign of character and honor. One could even find a similarity between our enthusiasm and religious fanaticism. Contrast this to the fictitious violence in our entertainment outlets. Has anyone ever suffered a concussion from playing video games? Admittedly there have been some tragically debilitating cases of carpal tunnel syndrome, but that is about the extent of the physical damage incurred.

i went to see the movie 42 over the weekend. the 20 minutes prior to the movie were filled with extremely violent movie trailers no doubt aimed at young folks. it's as if each one tries to top the other in mayhem, explosions, and dismemberment. in america this is somehow "entertainment".
