Lockdowns do not work. Data does not lie. Science,not politics.

We seemed to be successfully driving down the number of cases until about Memorial day when people started gathering together in large groups. Then the curve started to grow a hump and of course 4th of July festivities didn't help. We are way worse off today than we would have been if we had had the discipline to keep a tight lockdown for 1 or two months longer with mask wearing of course. No way places like Georgia and Florida should have kept growing in number of cases and deaths. We had it in the bag and blew it big time.

You should move your timeline from March to April at least. In March I think masks for the general public were being discouraged by the Science

It was discouraged because there was a shortage and the CDC wanted to make sure as many as possible were available for front line healthcare workers. I had a couple of dust masks in my garage I used and reused in the early days.
Fauci said US government held off promoting face masks because it knew shortages were so bad that even doctors couldn't get enough

That sounds about right. My personal opinion is that it's a good thing that masks were not introduced early on, because people would have come to rely on them, when social distancing should be the primary precaution. People needed to adapt to that first. Masks without social distancing are like airbags without seatbelts.

It is hard to say on the timeline and what should come first social distancing or masks. I agree with the fact that sometimes science can not follow the reality which is that we needed an infrastructure that we did not have. The bottom line is we had no leadership in wearing masks or social distancing (except for Fauci) which has allowed this virus to last longer than it should have. A President should have the ability to set a safe course or a plan of action by connecting with the American People if not the world by using his words correctly. Donald Trump does not have that ability. Fauci was either not certain in the beginning or did not believe we had the infrastructure to get masks out to everyone so social distancing was something that was easier to implement. I believe that a great leader would have found a way to get mask to everyone and that would have saved more lives than social distancing in my opinion just because it is not our nature to stand 6 feet or more from another person. I have found it difficult to step back from people when talking to them and it has taken a lot of practice.

Maybe looking back has been too politicized so lets look forward to what happens next. Covid-19 is very contagious and kills humans. It spreads primarily from droplets that come from our respiratory system and infects other humans through the eyes, mouth or nose. So a mask will protect others but since it does not prevent infecting thru the eyes you can be infected from someone not wearing a mask that would have prevented droplets from being expelled from their respiratory system. So everyone wearing a mask until we have a vaccine is crucial but for some reason not everyone is wearing masks. Good leadership is important and is a major factor in this pandemic. Whether lock downs work or not is irrelevant if everyone wears a mask. What is relevant is that we still are in a pandemic and it surging again. We can not simply wish this pandemic to go away. If we had a leader who cared about those 3.3 people out of 100 who are dying then maybe there would be more emphasis on wearing a mask until we get a safe and effective vaccine distributed to the population. No shutdowns or lock downs just everyone wear a mask. Maybe even large events could reopen if everyone would wear a mask. Going forward we need better leadership to avoid shut downs and lock downs which destroy social functions and economic functions. Political garbage is doing nothing and accepting people dying from this pandemic. I hope the American people will use their vote to fire Donald Trump and hire Joe Biden. It would hopefully save our democracy as well as save lives...
