Dr Christine Smiley
Seagrove Beach

I know everyone has COVID fatigue including myself.

But the reality is we have been seeing a significant increase in COVID cases in Santa Rosa Beach over the past 2 weeks. It is trending upwards.
This is the BEGINNING of cold and flu season here and our local hospital is already full.

Some people that have this coronavirus will be fine with no symptoms, some with mild or moderate symptoms. Others will require hospitalization and a small percentage will lose their life.

Maybe you will get lucky and get a mild strain that may or may not give you immunity.
We know a lot more about this virus.
Our death rate is much lower now
But now we know that even younger healthy patients with mild to moderate symptoms can have heart, lung, or kidney damage weeks to months after recovering from the virus.

We have an antibody therapy that is showing outstanding results but will take time to make it available to all. Maybe we can make enough to use it as a prevention too? We just need a few more months.

Vaccine is looking promising too. Still undergoing Phase 3 to ensure safety. But so far it is looking very effective. This should be available the end of January for healthcare workers, teachers etc. Maybe Spring for everyone. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

We have the power to slow this virus.
Like most things that help the greater good of the people, it will take some sacrifice.

1. Having less people at your Thanksgiving feast this year
2. Wearing a mask while grocery shopping or at indoor public places
3. Be outside more especially when around other people
4. Avoid large gatherings
5. Eat healthy and exercise

We just celebrated our veterans(heroes) and their service and large sacrifices for our country. I think we can all make these small sacrifices that will help slow the spread of this virus and save lives.

My type one diabetic grandson was forced to attend his final two classes at UWF in person to receive his degree. He now has Covid even after doing everything possible to remain safe from cooking his own food to mask wearing. It came down to a dorm mate in the next room in his pod being infected.
Stay safe people.

Maybe he needs to find a new god.

“I don’t have the coronavirus, I’m not going to get the coronavirus. I’m not going to give anybody the coronavirus, because I can’t get it, because I talked to God about it, and I’ve taken my vaccine. My vaccine is Psalm 91, and I am free from that mess.”

E.W. Jackson — a talk radio host, former candidate for Virginia lieutenant governor and enthusiastic supporter of President Donald Trump — told his congregation Sunday that he and his wife had been infected with COVID-19
