Crash ...how good?

Oh yes. It's an exquisite movie. It's tragic beyond the point of making you cry--it's really beyond tears--so save it for a night when you can take that kind of intensity. It's a movie that will make you angry because of all the misplaced pride, the loss of hope, and unyielding personalities that the characters display, which ultimately leads to their downfalls.

You described "House of Sand and Fog" perfectly. I don't think I can see the movie- the book destroyed me for days. You are right- it is beyond tears. Bdarg kept asking why I didn't just stop reading it. You can't. It is so well done that you can't leave the story, despite how despondent you have become along with the characters. I can't think of any other book that affected me the way this one did. It sounds like the movie was excellent as well.

We loved the movie. Have you seen the movie "House of Sand and Fog?" It's somewhat like that in the way people's lives are interwoven and actions and feelings lead to senseless tragedy. This movie stays with you for a long time after. My teens--17 and 19 years old--were as taken with it as their parents.
House of Sand and Fog was a very good flick.

Both Crash & House of Sand and Fog were excellent movies. I thought about both for days. In fact, I read House of Sand and Fog while on vacation in SoWal and my family couldn't believe I'd read a book that would give me so much "emotional turmoil." I couldn't put it down and the movie was so well adapted & the casting was perfect! As for Crash, I'm thrilled it won Best Picture!

I watched Walked the Line last night. It was good, but I didn't think it was great. Reese was very good in it

I agree about Walk the Line, and Reese (her dress was gorgeous, too). Joaquin was very good, as well, and of course the music and their singing was awesome, but I was not blown away by the film; certainly not haunted as I was by Crash.

House of Sand and Fog was a very good book but I could not make myself see the movie (knowing what was going to happen.)

I love the spectacle of the Oscars, but I never hold my breath about *my* favorite movies winning awards. Good Night and Good Luck was probably the most finely crafted movie I saw this past year, and I don't think it got anything, but at least David Strathairn was nominated.

You've explained the emotions of this movie better than I could have. It's an incredible movie, almost better in it's own way that Crash. Hard to watch tho. It's a movie I'll never forget.

i guess i am a weirdo, but i watch a movie to be entertained or grossed out depending on the movie - i don't want to see something that will haunt me for days on end. i think the world is depressing enough, so i like to escape thru movies. and a good scare never hurt anybody !

I have yet to see Crash. However, I did see Medea's Family Reunion, talk about hilarious, this movie is...not to mention I was the only white person in the auditorium for this particular showing, which made it even more funny. :funn:

It hurts me! I can't deal with scary or gory movies--those stay with me for days.
