Devil's Swamp - What is the geometric clearing north of the big ditch?

New posts
i'm surprised you haven't found this sooner, since it is the place where the composite for your seawall was mined from. local sources always make for cheaper pricing. and new technology was developed specifically for composite sewall material to mine in straight lines...;-)

hope to see you at mountainfilm.

who's up for a field trip to go check this thing out?

Me, Me! I want to go see it. Bobby J, you going?:idontno:

if something is refered to as devil's swamp I would imagine it may be best to let it alone. Unless of course you are up for the adventure. Havent you heard the story of Tate's Hell Swamp? That man returned crazed and dazed for sure. Be sure to bring a sidearm........... the rattlesnakes have been crawling lately.

Thanks, I finally found my excuse!

What about all those excursions that supposely took place this weekend?

John R, did you find that composite mine?:D

Bobby J and Beachbummett, what about you guys?

I've estimated this UFO clearing is about 3/4 of a mile long. Big landing field. Maybe the new airport surveyors screwed up. :D

I had to go check this out on GoogleEarth (love that site).

Very interesting.

At first I couldn't tell if those lines were trenches or mounds, but if you look at the shadows, (compared to the trees) they are definitely mounded up.

We need to send a SoWal recon. force up there to check it out.

That does look interesting. The property was purchased by Walton County
in Dec 2002. The soil type is listed as sand, so I would guess that sand is being mined. It appears as though the lines within the boundaries are dikes. I can see what appears to be pipes or pumps, connecting one side of a dike to the other. The surrounding property is owned by the NW FL Water Mgt.

Probably a borrow site (mine). Maybe the signs I saw at the turnoff were County Public Works signs.

It is a burrow site. I never went up once my wife told me she heard about it. The lines were so straight it looked odd. Anyway, once my wife filled me in I backed out because as many of you know our wives know everything!:clap_1:

Just for the rest of us (including me), what is a borrow site? I can take an educated guess but I'd probably be wrong! Those in the know, please share. Thanks!
