By the way, it appears that Google updated their images recently. If you're zoomed out a little, the clearing I'm referring to, disappears. If you zoom in, you then see the clearing. Gauging on gulf front features, it appears these newer images are from after Ivan by a few months (early 2005).

I think you are correct. If you look at Pensacola, it is a sea of blue tarp roofs.
