Driving on the bike path

The other day I deleted a thread about this because there was subsequent confusion about who the driver was and I didn't want the innocent to suffer.

I don't think many people drive on the bike path, which along with driving on the shoulder is illegal for obvious reasons. In my opinion, if you live in the area and do this regularly you should be in jail. If you are doing it out of anger and frustration to get around traffic you should also not have a license. If you are a business owner and you are doing it then you should not have a business here. You are going to kill one of your customers and then you will see the inside of a prison cell for a very long time. Your life and your family will be ruined and getting to work on time or making a delivery on time will no longer be your problem.

There were a couple of winesses and a few others who have witnessed similar reckless behavior by the same person. I know this message will get back to him. To this person I say, imagine if one of your own children were killed by a reckless driver on the road, and keep that thought in mind every time you get behind the wheel. I doubt you make more money by rushing, you certainly will make less money (and probably already are) by having a bad reputation.

Let's all slow down and enjoy paradise. ;-)

Thank you so much for sharing this. A very diplomatic way to get a very serious message across without naming specific names.

This situation of the danger of the bike path bothered me and my daughter so much; that my daughter due to witnessing numerous people including local delivery services doing this while riding her bike along 30-A;felt very uncomfortable riding her bike on the path.

I purchased her a membership at a local fitness club instead. Such a shame because when she first got to SoWal, the first thing she was excited about was the bike path and we got her a good used bike.

Endangering anyone is not worth the few minutes saved. I not sure rushing saves time anyway, I always find those that rush past me, only rush to the next traffic light and wait while I approach doing the posted speed, get the green light and go on. I call it Good Driver Karma. :D

Even parking on it can be very dangerous to riders who then have to go around them blindly on the street, or run smack into them at night! :whack::bicycle:

If my smilies worked, I'd be clapping a ton.We are all down here to enjoy life, not just a few handful of people. You're not saving a few minutes of time, you are risking everyone's lives and probably going to lose more than a few of your own via the examples Kurt posted above. It scares the crap out of me with the idea of biking down the path with my 3 little ones and the way people recklessly drive on it, cut around people on it and don't look when going across it.

Many times driving eastbound on Thirty-A in Seagrove, we've used the bike path to go around someone waiting a long time to turn left into Tom Thumb. Of course, we look for people on the bike path. I guess that's a bad thing to do, Kurt? If so, we won't do it again.

I plan to post a sign at our house for our guests reminding them to please be careful pulling out of our street. It's almost impossible to see people on the bike path due to shrubbery that blocks the view.

Saw a SUV parked on the T. Trail the other day, blocking everyone from using the path, and the only way around the SUV, was in the street. A family of five were waiting on traffic so they could go into the lane of the oncoming traffic to go around the violator. Telling some people how to behave seems so pointless, because they are selfish and care only about themselves.

I wonder if a photograph of the offending vehicle shown to the local authorities would yield any assistance. License number included.

It would be funnny is someone carefully took a bicycle tire and rolled it up and over the hood, up the windshield and down the back to leave a tire impression in the dust just to make the owners of the vehicle scratch their heads a lot when they got back.
