Fire In Blackcreek Freeport

New posts
Thanks Franny- the wind seems to have shifted a bit 'cause I am not gettng as much soot and it looks smokier west of here, towards you Franny.

I have to leave to go pick up Will- please call me if I need to know something!!!!

just drove from rosemary to dune allen on 98 and the plume reaches a long distance. looked like a controlled burn from the Hway. i had ashes on my car at the eden 283 stoplight...ya'll be safe!

Covered in ashes from a quick trip home at lunch...

Our bailiff (who also has a fire about 1/2 mile from his house in Red Bay  ) advised that it had jumped Black Creek, heading west. That would be AWAY from Bunker/PW. For it to get to the PW area, would it not have to cross the Choctawhatchee River AND the Intracoastal?

Of course, with all the ashes flying, anything is possible. And if I were our bailiff, I'd be headed toward the house.

A WZEP update reported the fire had grown to over 1,200 acres and would probably not be contained today.
Here is a satellite image, showing the smoke streching to the state line:

I guess there's nothing we can do to help? Like help dig a fire line or something? :idontno: For those that have lived here for a long time, has that kind of help ever been asked for?

I just talked with the South Walton Fire Dept. They have a Public info number set up for this fire. You can call 850-892-8392 or 850-892-8394 for a recorded update.

I spoke with Green Room Surfer around 3pm and from where he described the fire's location, Big Country should not be affected, other than not having access to his house, due to 3280 being blocked. Rob and Darcy should be okay too. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

One other note is that earlier today, SWFD was patrolling Pt Washington keeping a close look out for any falling embers which could cause a problem. They said that they would continue to monitor the area by patrol.
