Coming this weekend from the midwest through AL on I65 and stressing now with all the fires... here they are on fire warning !

Is there anything you do to prepare for these .... or is there a radio station for announcements in the area you listen too when you are there?

I feel for everyone...hear over 600+ fires in the US today.

Just wanted to know how the conditions were as well....I sure hope our trip isn't messed up....I so love to visit the Emerald Waters...

Cozy Girl !

Stay tuned in to www.SoWal.com for all of this area's info on fires. You will see it here long before any news channel on tv.

Current conditions are dry, and future outlook for remainder of this week is dry.

You can call 511 from your cell while in Florida, but I think it is only for road closeurs.

Half of those 600 fires are in Florida.

Dear Cozy:

I guess the best thing to do is look in awe at what Mother Nature can do and be very careful with grilling, etc., (and remind other people to do so) to make sure you help keep Mother Nature calm.

I feel that way after hurricanes... They remind me that Mother Nature is in charge and all we can do is prepare, be careful, and then be awed by her ability to mess things up and then clean up quickly afterwards (not counting by days, but by years/decades).

I feel very badly for people who lost homes or who had damage and for the firefighter who got hurt (I think one firefighter was taken out on a stretcher and I hope he recovered very quickly).

But 30A is great anytime. Trust me, I've been there days after 2 hurricanes when the beach stairs were out and had a fantastic time -- the storytelling, mutual support is wonderful and everyone is so happy to see you. And there are plenty of (legal) ways to get to the beach with or without stairs.

I think I just took this thread off track... I haven't been there after fires, though.

Thanks for info ...nice to know the scoop. Thanks for cell phones.
Glad fires not burning....hope it stays that way. Global warming sure has put the US in havoc ! So exicted for our trip down....and can't wait to hit the sun and sand !
