Turtle Watch Group volunteers find loggerhead nest

The first loggerhead turtle nest of the 2009 season was found in Seacrest Beach in Walton County on May 17. The nest was found by Turtle Watch Group volunteers early Sunday morning. It appears the turtle scaled a man-made mound to find her place.

I wonder if this nest was made by the same turtle seen swimming in Seagrove beach yesterday? Guess it's possible. Good luck to the little ones.

What information does anyone know about the man-made mound? This may go a long ways toward letting us know just what man made structures we can do and the turtles still survive.

According to statistics, the female turtles return close to the same place they hatch from. Pretty amazing!
