It's still their major source of income and we still need to wean ourselves off oil - but it is one of the major fallacies that we get our oil from them - and that we can pick and choose where we buy it from.

I am under the impression that available data shows that drilling in Florida will not lower our gas prices. It is also my understanding that accidents which cause oil spills happen everywhere even with new technology. My understanding is that states that have allowed for drilling haven't seen anywhere near the revenues that Florida has been promised- and their beaches have TAR BALLS. If I was an elected official with a vote I would start with these points. If they can't be refuted then what is the point of doing anymore research before I cast what is obviously the right vote for Florida.
Tar Balls!, and the game that is played is the oil industry blames shipping...vice versa. meanwhile the beaches become a goo minefield.

I wonder who is working hard to keep this quiet while other countries are moving fast?

Some Nuclear Energy Backers Say Uranium Alternative Could be a Magic Bullet - US News and World Report

In the midst of renewed global interest in nuclear energy, a long-overlooked nuclear fuel, thorium, is being re-examined as a potential solution to some of the industry's most daunting problems, including disposal of waste.

Widely available in the sandy beaches of India, Australia, and the United States, among other places, thorium is a naturally occurring, slightly radioactive element that is being heralded by advocates as a safer alternative to uranium that could help limit the production of nuclear waste and prevent nuclear technology from being used for weapons rather than energy.

Though many nuclear scientists have known about thorium's potential for decades?it was briefly used in the 1970s at the first U.S. commercial reactor in Shippingport, Pa.?it never caught on commercially. Today, however, with nearly three dozen nuclear reactors under construction worldwide and plans for at least two dozen more, world leaders are facing mounting pressure to make sure that the nuclear industry's expansion takes place as safely and cleanly as possible.

We have all the technology to wean ourselves off oil in the long term and greatly reduce our usage in the short term, we just aren't utilizing it.

I'm just waiting on the increased production/service/install plan for the 4' high wind turbine for my roof...................which along w/ the solar panels will easily power my home and hybrid car.

In the meantime, eating and shopping locally, being judicious with the thermostat settings, not drinking bottled water, and driving (or not) a vehicle w/ increased mileage are some of the best ways to reduce our oil consumption and dependence.

I honestly think this boils down to two scenarios.

They wait out this legislative session so that supporters can get reelected and pass it in the post election legislative session, but get a stalemate if the next Governor won't sign it.

They pass it in this legislative session resulting in a huge backlash during election time and possibly resulting in a reversal of the law.

Obviously there are a few other scenarios, but I think it really comes down to these two.

Can you please link to evidence of her Texas oil lobby money? All I find at ballotpedia.org is her top 5 contributors:
FL Police Benevolent Assoc $2,000 21st Century Oncology $1,000 American Resort Development Assoc $1,000 FL Chamber of Commerce $1,000 FL Assoc of Insurance Agents $1,000

I do not see any red flags here....

She received $500 from Southern Strategy Group out of Tallahassee, the lead lobbyist firm for Florida Energy Associates, the Texas Oil Group seeking to drill in State waters

your answer

Did you do any investigation to see if what you hear is true? Mr. Pleat has issued 3 press releases claiming that "Texas oil" has given money to the Coley campaign. I just spent 2 hours on google to find any evidence of this and outside of the Walton County Democrats and David Pleat's facebook page I am afraid any public evidence of this is nonexistant. It does not surprise me that a trial attorney would stretch the truth. If you want this kind of representation in Tallahasee then you will deserve the representation you are getting. It was good for me to learn more about who is supporting Mr. Pleat. I personally will be avoiding Florida Fish House and Harbor Docks Restaurant from now on seeing the company that its owner keeps. Kind of a bummer since the 2 for 1 early bird specials are so good. I never really liked Bud and Alley's anyway so avoiding it will not be as hard.

Ms. Coley recieved $500 from Southern Stategy Group in Tallahasse, the lead lobbyist firm for Florida Energy Associates the Texas Oil group seeking to drill in State waters.

I am not against politicians taking money. I have a problem when they allow it to influence their decisions. It would be so great to have a new generation of politicians render lobbyists powerless by taking all of their money but not giving anything at all in return. I'll keep dreaming...

Our problem is when those kind of people run we don't vote for them. We cannot even get it right half the time in city, county and state elections, no wonder the central government is so screwed up.
