Healthcare Reform Repeal Vote Scheduled

New posts
Which key procedural hurdle was that?

The fact that the guy introducing the legislation was never sworn in and so violated the Constitution 2x - first by introducing legislation and second by voting on it?

Or their own new rules that:
1) They couldn't introduce legislation without finding a way to pay for it.

2) Each piece of legislation had to say which part of the Constitution gave them that power. ;-)

The above link Catherine Austin Fitts (part 4/4 Looting of America) delves into her fascinating perspective on the healthcare bill and how it intertwines with everything else that is occurring in the country right now.

If time constraints are a factor start @ 3:50 for a touch of background, while (in a vacuum) the heart of her points on healthcare begins about 9:30.

ObamaCare repeal test vote: Just four Democrats side with GOP ? Hot Air

CBO note - Repeal will decrease federal spending by 540 billion between 2012 -> 2021. It'll also eliminate 770 billion in new taxes over the same period. Unfortunately repeal will also kill some good cost savings in Medicare, so maybe after the repeal goes through we can revisit the Medicare saving in a new bill.

So now somebody needs to explain to me how all of this was supposedly "free". Once you dig into the real numbers, it's clear this bill came at a massive cost to taxpayers and for future generations.

The bill wasn't "free," but it DID include much needed reforms and provisions to help offset the massively increasing costs.

Ten months ago, Democrats used a partisan majority to narrowly defeat bipartisan opposition and pass a national health-care program that a majority of the public opposed and continues to oppose today. Gallup reported yesterday that Americans favor repeal, 46% to 40%. Among the worst Democratic abuses was gaming the CBO's budget conventions to make it seem as if ObamaCare "saves" money.

The accounting gimmicks are legion, but we'll pick out a few: It uses 10 years of taxes to fund six years of subsidies. Social Security and Medicare revenues are double-counted to the tune of $398 billion. A new program funding long-term care frontloads taxes but backloads spending, gradually going broke by design. The law pretends that Congress will spend less on Medicare than it really will, in particular through an automatic 25% cut to physician payments that Democrats have already voted not to allow for this year.

Budget gimmicks and shell games.

The healthcare reform law is a mess. That being said, I don't want it to be repealed because what happens to people who can't get insurance due to pre-existing conditions? And thanks to "ObamaCare," children can stay on their parents' insurance until they are 26. Thanks to the bad economy, many college grads can't get a job (and group insurance). So ObamaCare saves families a lot of money. COBRA is very expensive.

I doubt the law will be repealed. Obama will veto anything that comes his way so, for two years at least it won't happen. I think it's safe to say that in addition to the current big name reform fights - Medicare and Social Security, we can now add a third - ObamaCare reform.

The thing that concerns me - based on what we've seen thus far the tax increases and spending reductions that brought the cost of this thing under a trillion over it's first ten years will likely not be implemented. Which means we can expect an ever worsening fiscal situation in Washington as this thing rolls out. :idontno: What can you do!

Boehner has said that no legislation will go before the House next week out of respect for Gabrielle Giffords and those who died in Arizona today.

I suspect the tone of things will be a little different when they reconvene.
