Cork and Sunshine,

This thread is breaking my heart. But stay strong, you'll both be fine. Shorter time intervals in the crate while you are home, then gradually increasing them worked for us. The Kong is the greatest. Go get 1 or 2 right away. Good luck!!!

:floor: :floor: I so love your signature "Because I'm the mommy, that's why!" Wish it worked in this case :funn: As soon as I can get out of tax hell, the Kong is getting picked up. In fact will probably just order some online to get it quick. They sound great. Still licking her bruised feet all the time :( and still hopping on 3 legs from falling off the windowsill. I want to squeeze in a walk on the beach to perk her up but it's embarrassing. People will think I'm abusing her .

Here's the company's website. You can look at the 'classic' Kongs and then pick out her size. Or maybe the Puppy Kongs would work in this case. I haven't checked prices on this website or compared them to Petco, but I think this site is good because you get to read up on them and see all the possible products they have. Halle has 2 Kongs, and she loves them! Sometimes when she is napping they are both beside her on her pillow!!

I don't know what it is, but dogs go crazy over them! Must be because they are essentially treat-delivery systems :clap_1: !

Cork, I have a rescued Jack Russell. When I got him I immediately took him to the vet and got his shots and had him checked for heartworms. Unfortunately he was postive. He had a very bad case of them. I had to have him treated of course. The treatment itself was terrible. I had to keep him quiet and very still for 8 weeks after he came home from the vets after being there for 14 days. He had been tied up to a tree for a year before I rescued him. It was awful having to have him crated. However, he finally did get used to it. It took me a couple of weeks to get him used to being crated. I thought it was torture for him, but I knew it was the only way for him to survive the treatments. I felt so guilty. I know your pain. It takes a while for them to get used to the idea, but once they do, it will be the best thing you can do for your little girl. On the other hand, if you just can't do it, don't feel guilty about it. You handle it the best way you can. I hope everything works out for you!!!!

Wow.
A Jack Russell tied up to a tree. For a year.
Thank goodness he is with you now, kathydwells!
At the vet's here, they keep a glass jar full of real heartworms, tangled, nasty-looking, and all found in one single dog, to help convince skeptical dog owners of the wisdom of paying for meds.

Cork, I hope you two are working it out okay. I know what you mean about being embarrassed walking a limping dog. Our old Rosie is literally on her last legs, poor girl. But she gallantly rises to the occasion, especially when food is involved.

Sorry guys, been planning my international tickets before tax day :funn: :funn:
Boy, have I got paper!

Anyway here's our update. We got our first brief tail wag yesterday afternoon. She also walked up to the dismantled crate (after the big wash:lol: ) and sniffed it so she must not be afraid of it :idontno: . Yesterday I had a couple work people and had to step outside and of course, she started the screaming! After numerous times of excusing myself and going to the door to tell her "no bark", she went and layed down. When I got back inside, she got some chicken --- MMMMMMMM! We went through this process on 3 different occasions to get her to shut her yap up when I walk outside. Rest of the day was quiet - mostly licking feet and sleeping.

This morning, she actually got perky. Came into me while in the shower and gave me the "I want to go out eyes". When we went downstairs and she saw me pick up her leash, she actually started the happy dance (circles and tail wags). You guys know that dance. :lolabove: She also is giving me the "i wub you looks again" so I feel so much better.

Kathydwells, you're a great person for taking care of that baby. Thank you. Not a lot of people would have gone to the expense and trouble and my heart goes out to you. It also gives me reinforcement and courage to do what I have to with Sunshine.

MKH, popped into the website. So many different types of Kongs. Some look too easy to get the treat and some look impossible  . Do you have a suggestion on a medium challenge one that would be good for a pointy nosed starter? Thank you so much for your time in checking that out also. Very kind of you.

Cil and Audie, I think my little girl does a bit of acting with those feet but I know her feet were quite damaged when they found her. You are both so great for taking care of your baby's to the end. My daughter rescued a dog with severe hip dysplasia and it breaks my heart to see that poor guy try to get up or down. It's such a difficult decision, I know. I have a friend who listened to her vets advise to put her cat down and it was a very traumatic event for her. It has been just one year and I've found a cat that needs a home and she's finally in a place where she can think about replacing her sweetie. You guys shouldn't be embarrased. You should where shirts that say "I love him/her so much that I'll carry him/her if I need to." I admire you for being there for them in their senior years. :clap_1: So many people just get rid of them like a pair of old shoes when they need help.

Ms Kitty - Now you know how we all feel, waiting to see what's going to out of you on your next post! :floor:

Thank all of you for your support and concern. Sunshine and I love all of you  and are so happy we finally moved to the lounge:lol:.

Gonna run to Tampa tomorrow. Have an appointment to find out about one of those string face lifts :floor: so I will have to fill you in on that escapade next:rolling: . Has anyone done it?

Cork, thanks for the update. I have been thinking of you and Sunshine! I know you will gently lead her into this. She is so lucky to have you.

Where are you going in Tampa? I don't know much about these things but I do know the Marcadis center does fantastic work. You aren't going there by any chance are you?
