How Incredibly Sad...

New posts
Quick refresher - how do we "ignore" someone? ;-)
.
When in User CP down the left side column you'll find a category called "Edit Ignore List" under Settings and Options.

That will be a temporary fix until a reincarnation happens.

Landlocked, you need to pick up a copy of Dread Clampitt's newest CD, "Learnin' to Live." It is awesome. They had the CD release party at the Red Bar and it was fabulous. Get your booty to SoWal for July 4, when Sam Bush takes the stage with Dread Clampitt for the Seaside music. It will be packed and fun.

My CD is on the way..YAY. Hate I missed the release party. I have heard from a little birdie that LL will be in town the same weekend I get there.

I will be! Mrs. LL, Walker and I will be there and I can assure you we will not be talking politics!

This makes me happy.

At the risk of opening a can of worms, can you send me a PM and explain this?

The political subforum on any internet forum is a place for all the malcontents to gather, because they come like flies. The more crap you got on your site, the more flies you got. Better they buzz in a political subforum than other subforums, right?

That doesn't mean everyone in the political forum is a malcontent and trouble maker, but those who aren't should not get upset when they peak inside. And then there are those on "the other side" who continuously beat their heads against the wall trying to speak to the bad element, feeding the trolls. The fatter trolls get the meaner they get.

In short, don't feed the trolls and they go away. If they are banned (and some are) they are just replaced by others. Better the devil you know....

As a person I have certain beliefs and am usually pretty quiet about them. As a publisher, I welcome all comers, unless they are really nasty and are no good to anyone.

The people you have a problem with on this forum are your neighbors, like it or not. In the end, online or offline, your community is what each and every one of us make it. My focus is on being helpful (and real), and I hope that rubs off on at least one person.

End of manifesto.

The only message I have for everyone at the moment is - go outside. :D

Kurt, I have felt from the beginning that national politics doesn't belong on sowal.com. Some time back, before there was a politics section, the political discussion seemed to mainly be about local issues. Given our insular county government and sparse local media, that was a very good thing, indeed. OTOH, there were and still are plenty of other internet choices for those wishing to discuss national issues. I agree with jdarg that I simply avoid those threads - not much new to learn, nothing to gain from participating. I also agree with you that I learned quickly which posters are trouble, and stay away from their stuff.

You know the forum far better than me, but I get the feeling that the sense of community is diminished. Is some of that just the natural evolution of forums as pioneers burn out? Maybe, but I fear that even though we've isolated the political section, a little of the divisiveness there drips out elsewhere.

I have learned much from SoWal's political forum. Having been on here long enough to know the players, I read more carefully some posters' thoughts than others and there is usually a decent balance of info from these folks. I find it more educational than TV news with their snippets and talking points. (except I do like the gamut of Sunday morning news programs).

The links provided by SoWal members in discussions point me to articles that I may have missed and I use them selectively, as I don't have time to hunt and find everything on my own, let alone read everything.

There are certain members whose posts and links I always try to read because I know I will gain something.

I find the fake articles that some inject into the discussion to be quite annoying and personally feel they belong somewhere else besides SoWal. (imo nowhere! Ha!)

Bottom line - I have grown intellectually from SoWal political discussions and love when both sides are presented rationally. I trust the opinions and thoughts of many of you guys over other news sources!
