I really like both SoWal and FB for similar and different reasons. I can connect with my SoWal friends on both, but I get to connect with friends from the U.S., Holland, Afghanistan, Curacao, Germany, etc. on Facebook. Just tonight, I wrote 3 good friends from high school back and 1 from Athens. I wouldn't know a thing about them without FB. Also, I have family from all sides, both adopted and birth, on there. Plus, I didn't even realize that I had a person from high school that lived HERE, 2 miles from me, until FB. Now, we run into each other all the time. I skip all the extra stuff now and play Scramble when I am trying to get Hunter to sleep, but that's about it.
I have set up my FB account so that everyone can't see every wall I write on, etc. You can have it as private as you want it, which is nice. I blocked 2 ex-boyfriends that I really do not ever want to "chat" with insincerely. Not my cup of tea and it's nice to know that I can make that choice on there.
SoWal is my connection here, to news and the goings-on. It was a great help when we moved here 2 1/2 years ago. When I wanted to find out about the fire today, I came here because I knew someone would have the answer. This is like a warm, fuzzy home that is much quieter. I'd have to say I'm a SoWaller at heart and always will be. It's quirky, just like the place we live in. I love SoWal and can't even use other local sites because they feel like I am cheating on SoWal.
But I love that many of my SoWal friends are on FB. And, Hnooe & MissCritter, I love seeing your updates now, along with everyone else's. I love that Singinchicken and AggieB can check on why they have a friend request from me. I enjoy chats with Dunelaker's other half. Plus, while typing this post, I have received a playdate request from one of Z's classmates' moms and a friend request from my cousin Lance in Iowa, who was the main reason I found out so much about my birth family so easily. You can't biotch about joys like that.
