I Dont Think I Can Face Facebook !?#@

New posts
OM - I enjoyed your post about how you have used FB. thanks! it is very informative, and helpful to others who may be considering taking the plunge. your sharing is always so positive and makes a difference to others around here! so thank you! of course I know you will forgive me and others for keeping our social lives offline and not joining in on the action and you'll love us anyway.:wub:

and to OM and Darlene, thanks for pointing out the differences between what you get from SoWal.com (a local community message board and info site), and Facebook (a social networking site). two entirely different animals, for sure!

I really like both SoWal and FB for similar and different reasons. I can connect with my SoWal friends on both, but I get to connect with friends from the U.S., Holland, Afghanistan, Curacao, Germany, etc. on Facebook. Just tonight, I wrote 3 good friends from high school back and 1 from Athens. I wouldn't know a thing about them without FB. Also, I have family from all sides, both adopted and birth, on there. Plus, I didn't even realize that I had a person from high school that lived HERE, 2 miles from me, until FB. Now, we run into each other all the time. I skip all the extra stuff now and play Scramble when I am trying to get Hunter to sleep, but that's about it.

I have set up my FB account so that everyone can't see every wall I write on, etc. You can have it as private as you want it, which is nice. I blocked 2 ex-boyfriends that I really do not ever want to "chat" with insincerely. Not my cup of tea and it's nice to know that I can make that choice on there.

SoWal is my connection here, to news and the goings-on. It was a great help when we moved here 2 1/2 years ago. When I wanted to find out about the fire today, I came here because I knew someone would have the answer. This is like a warm, fuzzy home that is much quieter. I'd have to say I'm a SoWaller at heart and always will be. It's quirky, just like the place we live in. I love SoWal and can't even use other local sites because they feel like I am cheating on SoWal.

But I love that many of my SoWal friends are on FB. And, Hnooe & MissCritter, I love seeing your updates now, along with everyone else's. I love that Singinchicken and AggieB can check on why they have a friend request from me. I enjoy chats with Dunelaker's other half. Plus, while typing this post, I have received a playdate request from one of Z's classmates' moms and a friend request from my cousin Lance in Iowa, who was the main reason I found out so much about my birth family so easily. You can't biotch about joys like that.

Show-off.

:floor:...oh, I so want tickets to this.

Maybe this could be a fundraiser for Alaqua???

:floor::floor:Seriously, thanks, everyone, for reading my babbling last night. MissCritter, I am laughing hard because you were typing this while talking to me & I had no idea what you were writing.:funn:

So...what's...wrong...with...ellipses?

I'm guilty, because my mind can't finish one thought before either going off to a new one or trying to explain the one I jsut had. Most folks think I'm jsut quiet and shy, but it's only because I'm always trying to figure out what's really going on.

Maybe I need to get back on the meds. :floor:

P.S. Thanks to Seagrovegirl, I'm on FB now but I currently don't have time for pictures. So mine is blank. I typed in Freeport High School and saw people I haven't talked to since we graduated. This might be cool, if I get the time to deal with it. I abhor MySpace; this might be better!

No, as far as I know it isn't. But, let's be real here. There are over 500K members. There is a political forum that can get hot and heavy. If you are a business person in Sowal selling goods, I can see it. But, a regular poster with opinions, I would recommend against it. Personally, if I knew the real names of some of the posters on this board, I would pull their hair if I saw them.

There's over 500k posts. There's only about 6,000 members last time I checked. ;-)

Hnooe, I use my pictures as my avatar on a regular basis. :funn:

Yea, and I am David Beckham's better looking, younger brother.

Do I take it that you are God from your new avatar pic?
